The decade of THE SEVENTIES is symbolically represented by the punched tape devoured by innumerable computers. Forsyth Technical Institute entered this era in a particularly memorable fashion. Operating for the first complete year under full accreditation by the Southern Association of Schools and Colleges, the Institute prepared for its late summer move into the million-dollar multi-purpose building. Within this first yearbook are reflected some of the persons and events involved in a momentous year. Volume One of the Reflector is dedicated to the students of Forsyth Tech, through whose lives the school will have increasing influence in this community. Recog- nizing the constant development of new technologies and new production methods brought about by an expanding industrial program in research and development and the social and vocational impact of these factors, the Institute sustains a major effort in the area of adult continuing education. This program is directed toward self-improvement in cultural, avocational, and vocational pursuits. Adult Education courses conducted by Forsyth Technical Institute are offered on a daytime and evening basis in approximately 36 different locations in Forsyth and Stokes Counties. Between 3,000 and 3,500 students enroll in these courses each quarter, and a teaching staff of 170 part-time instructors teach in the program. Course offerings in adult education begin at grade level one and extend through post-high-school occupational educa- tion, A visit to the adult education program will afford the opportunity to see adults: learning to read and write or... completing their high school education or. . . learning a vocational skill or... participating in a community service program. 1 Laboratory tle Te French and other languages are taught by tape and text. Activities The technical institute campus, by its very nature, limits the activities of its students; club Organization is traditionally slow in coming. Forsyth Technical Institute students participate in informal athletics, elect members to the Student Council, and attend social events. Recent years have seen the beginning of two clubs and the initial attempts at campus publications. prs nN 84 SS SSA Student Council Seated: Sue Estep, Treasurer; Francis Greene, President; Jerri Russell, Secretary.
