School Song 1. Once again here as schoolmates assembled, We fain would lift our hearts in song, To our high School, our dear Alma Mater, Let gladness the moments prolong. We are proud of our lads and our lasses, Of honors won in days gone by, So here's a cheer for our old High School For our Old High School, Our Dear Old High. CHORUS: Here's to our classes, Here's to our lasses, Here's to the lads they adore, Here's to the seniors so mighty, Juniors so flighty, freshie and sophomore, Let mirth and gladness, banish all sadness, Then as the days go by You'll find us ready and steady Boosting for Forreston High. Cheers GOOD LUCK Good Luck! Hey! L-hey! U-hey! C-K Hey! Lots of luck Is coming your way So take it again and Let's begin Hey! Good Luck! WE'RE THE CHAMPS We're the champs, we're the champs, We're the CH-AM-PS! We're the best, we're the best, We're the BE-ST best! The Cardinals are the best! Yes!

Dedication The 1938 yearbook was dedicated to Mrs. Amsrud (when she was Miss Beth Hower) with the fol- lowing words: “In recognition of that one who has the longest record of service in our high school, who has unselfishly placed the welfare of her pupils above her own needs, who is ever striving for new means of stimulating her pupils to greater efforts, and who has done more than any one else in recent years to put Forreston on the “Music Map,” we hereby dedicate this first volume of THE CARDINAL to our devoted and tireless band director, Miss Beth Hower.” Beth has worn well. The above words continue to ring true. To many non-Forreston people the word “Forreston” has been synonymous with a colorful marching school band for many years escorted by “Tip,” the chow with a regal bearing; and a choice conee rt band at Trask Bridge Picnic and other similar celebrations. Beth's first formal school band appeared in 1933-34, following five years of foundation work. During the past 30 years approximately 2,000 students have been in her bands. About the same number have also been in her three different vocal groups. Thus, a total of 4,000 student-years have been invested by Forreston High Schoolers in Beth's vocal and instrumental groups. No one can measure the length, breadth and full extent of her influence as it continues to branch out through these lives. Her influence is not limited to the mechanics of music and the wider range of music appreciation, but her sense of justice, integrity and devotion to duty have been equally important. It has been not only what she did, but what she was. Her strength of character has made her a great teacher. She was firm and exacting, yet kind-hearted, generous and patiently helpful. A number of youths have been helped in the Amsrud home. They were taught by precept and example to help themselves, were given some financial aid, got renewed courage and all went forth to do well in the world — these are living testimonies to the character of both Beth and Morrie Amsrud. For these reasons and others that could be enumerated, we, the class of 1964, do enthusiastically dedicate this twenty-fifth volume of THE CARDINAL to our friend and talented music mentor, Mrs. Beth Amsrud. May her retirement days be as fruitful and happy as have been her busy days at FCHS and other area schools. 3
