executive officer WILLIAM B. WARWICK Captain William B. Warwick, USN, was born April 28, 1929, in Columbus, Ohio. He was graduated from high school in Indianapolis, Indiana in 1946. While in high school he was sworn into the U.S. Navy in the Aviation Midshipman program and attended Purdue University. Following two years at Purdue he entered flight training at Pensacola, ,Florida as a Midshipman. Upon completion of flight training, in April 1950, he was as- signed to Fighter Squadron Twenty-Four and took part in three Korean deployments, flying the F4U Corsair initially and later the F9F Panther from the decks of the carriers BOXER, VALLEY FORGE, and PHILIP- PINE SEA. In October 1952, Captain Warwick was assigned to the Naval Air Advanced Training Command as a flight instructor. He next served as Assistant CIC Officer, first in uss forrestal and then in USS SARATOGA while the ships were in the process of being commissioned and fitted out. , In April 1957, Captain Warwick joined Heavy Attack Squadron Eleven. Flying the A3B Skywarrior , he de- ployed to the Sixth Fleet aboard USS ROOSEVELT. 'He attended the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California for two years and, upon graduation in August 1961, was assigned to the Bureau of Naval Personnel. In August 1963, he was assigned to Attack Squadron Seventy-Five, the first fleet squadron to fly the A6A Intruder all weather attack aircraft. Deploy- ing with Attack Carrier Air Wing Seven aboard USS INDEPENDENCE in May 1965, he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and six Air Medals for his participation in combat missions in Southeast Asia. He assumed command of VA-75 while still in the combat theater on September 18, 1965. Captain Warwick next reported to the Air War College at Maxwell, AFB, in Montgomery, Alabama for a one-year course of in- tensive professional study. Upon graduation he proceeded to NAS Whidby Island, in Washington, and became the first Commanding Officer of the West Coast A6A Replacement Training Squadron, VA-128, which was commissioned in September 1967. . A From VA-128, he went back tothe Bureau of Naval Personnel in May 1969 and served for one year as the Aviation Commander Assignment Officer. In June 1970 he reported for his second tour aboard FORRESTAL, this time as Executive Officer. He was promoted to Captain in October 1970. ' Captain Warwick is married to the former Sally Ann McFadden of Indianapolis, Indiana. He resides with his wife and three children: Dianne, 18, Robert, 17, and James, 11, in Virginia Beach, Virginia. q 9 1
