A woman possessing a variety of talents, a woman who served hundreds of students at Forrest-Strawn-Wing High School, a woman dedicated to education-such a woman is Miss Mabel Marlar, FSW's guidance counselor, who is retiring after the 1970-1971 School year. Miss Marlar came to Forrest at the start of the 1949-1950 school year, when the Forrest-Strawvn-Wing unit was created. Her contributions to the school system since that date have been many and varied. Her first duties at Forrest-Strawn-Wing High School included teaching biology and general business, plus being assistant principal. Next she taught journalism courses, and later she became guidance counselor. This past year she also taught a psychology course in conjunction with Mr. Onken. Miss Marlar has served as advisor for a long list of organizations and activities, some of which are no longer active in our school. She has advised Tupelo, a school newspaper, Quill and Scroll, National Honor Society, Student Council, the Senior Class, and the newly created Health Occupations Club. We, the 1970-1971 Tupek Staff dedicate this edition of the F-S-W yearbook to Miss Marlar in recognition of her service to the school and to the community.
