AV Electronics Acquired Skills in Mass Media Audio-Visual Club members had the opportun- ity to participate actively in an educational program while performing services for both the faculty and students. Club members bene- fited from the general knowledge of communi- cations and technology they obtained. In addi- tion, they supplied teachers with equipment nec- essary for classroom learning and devoted time to help set up equipment for assemblies, class meetings, drama productions, and other school functions. AV Club extended membership to any inter- ested student with a C-average or better who received a passing grade on qualifying tests covering procedures and equipment. Under the guidance of Mr. Leroy Thomson, the Electronics Club gave students interested in electronics a chance to put their ideas into action. With President Joe Reiss and Vice- President Doug Watson, the members enlarged the television-servicing area while learning safe handling techniques of test instruments, radios, televisions, and other electronic equipment. Panorama of Forest View Illustrated Desire to Represent Entire Student Body To produce a well-organized, informative, and attractive yearbook, planning must start several months preceding the commencement of the school year. Upon her announcement, then, as Editor-in-Chief of the 1971 Talon in March, Leslie Troutman began to formulate ideas for the publication. During the summer, she and Copy Editor Anne Powers attended two separate journalism workshops at the University of Wisconsin and Northern Illinois University, respectively. There they studied the fundamentals of layout, copy, and photography. In September, work began in earnest as the staff updated student files, cropped pictures, typed copy, and wrote captions and headings. Besides designing layouts, Leslie assigned and supervised all staff work. Anne distributed and edited copy, while Photo Editor Kathy Maly scheduled all pictures and engaged staff mem- bers to meet the photographer. Mr. Robert Staley, who assumed the financial management of the book, assisted production as the Talon advisor. The staff appreciated the services of David Swain, who photographed a large number Editor in Chief Leslie Troutman and Copy Editor Anne Powers revised materials of scenes of daily school life. Two ideas which added to the basic format of the 1971 Talon were the page kickers Cone or two-word descriptions of page content ad- jacent to page numberl and the placement of faculty portraits in the academic section. This latter arrangement, and also that of combining the Senior Summaries at the end of the book, allowed efficient use to be made of the limited space resulting from an increased enrollment. In conjunction with the theme, Panorama of Forest View, the outwardly extending arrows of the cover and endsheet designs, as well as the division page pictures depicting a scene from various angles, signified our wish to present fully the many different facets that characterize the Forest View student and his school. Since September, the staff has met six hectic deadlines to produce the 1971 Talon but Q . . . h W e have been well gratified with the result hope that each student will be pleased wh he pages through the book and recalls tl events of the 1970-1971 school year. Mr. Robert Staley combined teaching duties with those of Talon advisor. -1 v .-
