Guest Speakers Broadened History Curriculum 'fffff r'r'f'r'r'f Mr. Stanley Reynolds lectured his newly formed Anthropology class. Mr. Ed Cheatham led a discussion in American history. With the addition of a course on World Religions and revision of the American Prob- lems class to stress the study of criminal and juvenile law, the Social Science Department expanded its curriculum as well as modified previously established courses. The depart- ment continued to offer Afro-American History, Anthropology, Political Science, and Russian History either in regular class sessions or as electives for independent study. As in previous years, many classes abandoned the use of standard textbooks and concentrated more on films, slides, and other resource materials. The Social Science Resource Room gave students the opportunity to use study carrels as well as to obtain a number of social-study books not available in the library. Social science students benefited from a variety of guest speakers and field trips. lVlr. Walter Moist, Forest View's police counselor, spoke to American Problems classes on the topic of juvenile law. A Catholic priest and a Protestant minister informed Sociology stu- dents of some of the controversial aspects of their respective religions. Interesting and educational field trips for social science students included visits to Dixon State Mental Hospital, Criminal Court and police headquarters in Chicago, and the Bahai Temple in Wilmette. 38 Social Science Department
