cience Department Acquired Equipment, Courses With an enlarged teaching staff and addi- tional subjects, laboratories, and equipment, the Science Department increased opportuni- ties for the student interested in science. In Rooms A-117 and A-121, the installation of new biology tables, with individual gas and wa- ter outlets, allowed the remainder of the sci- ence rooms to be used for classroom instruc- tion. Genetics, Human Physiology, and Current Topics in Science, all presented on a one- semester basis, formed three of the new course offerings. Environmental Pollution, the most popular study area, familiarized students with the problems of prevention of pollution. In this particular course, teachers evaluated students using either the pass-fail method or a new contract', system. The student, given pre- determined assignment requirements for every grade level, decided his grade according to the effort he put forth. Biology and Physical Science constituted the only required science courses, while students chose electives from among the many new and different study areas. Science Department 37
