Through Creative Cooking and Family Meals, students learned to incorporate good food nu- trition with varied and creative meals. An addi- tional kitchen permitted sample meals to be prepared during class periods. Students en- rolled in Clothing I and Dressmaking gained experience in making their own outfits. To en- able more students to practice sewing in class, the department added new sewing machines. Home economics teachers also instructed stu- dents in the fields of home and child care. Through Independent Study, students with conflicting schedules performed in-depth re- search into the areas most appealing to them. While working independently, advanced students learned to sew on more difficult fabrics. Others became acquainted with architecture as they designed their own homes. Home Economics Related Occupations QHEROJ, sponsored by Mrs. Dorothy Scharf, enabled students to apply the knowledge they had obtained in class to modern living. Prac- tical experience gained in every-day situations illustrated the importance of an edu- cation in home economics. With the assistance of Mrs. Emily Griggs, Pam Dickinson adjusted a pattern for a proper fit. 1-,xv X 2- v- .,-,-,L
