To meet the demands of a large enrollment, the Business Education Department expanded its personnel and added and replaced a signifi- cant amount of equipment. The Office Practices class acquired a new electronic calculator, while the typing classes replaced fourteen typewriters and received new textbooks. Ac- counting, General Business, and Shorthand were just a few of the Independent Study programs that supplemented the already adequate curriculum. As a variation of the daily class routine, business education teachers arranged a number of field trips and invited guest speakers to visit different classes. Students traveled to the Merchandise Mart, the County Court House, and the Museum of Science and Industry. The Reverend Hiram Melson from Operation Bread- basket talked to the Consumer Problems class, while a representative of the Federal Bureau of Investigation visited Mr. Glenn Matters CWT class. Learning outside of the classroom con- tinued with participation in the Teachers Aide Program at local elementary schools. Many business students prepared for actual future employment in the world of business, and all participants gained valuable experience ann cable to the practical living aspects of the world. ,-Q 'ffl' M . if f-'..
