Board Approved New Policies and Drug Survey Under the direction of its president, Mr. Richard Bachhuber, the District 214 Board of Education established the general policies fol- lowed by the six district high schools. The Board hired teachers, negotiated with the Teachers Association, made decisions concern- ing new facilities and budgets, and studied the results of a survey regarding drug abuse taken among District 214 pupils. The school year of 1970-71 brought some changes to the administration at Forest View. Mr. Robert Hoese, former assistant principal, left to become the new principal of Rolling Mea- dows High School. As a new member of the ad- ministration, Mr. Jack Martin came to assume Mr. Hoese's position. Believing that students were sufficiently responsible to receive special freedoms, the school administration approved an open-campus policy which allowed students to leave school grounds during lunch periods. Another change resulted in the alteration of the exam policy. Whereas teachers once had to administer sem- ester examinations, they now had the option whether or not to give examinations. As the administrators worked closely with the Distrit 214 School Board to effect change, they strove ' 1 ' I for good communications and consequent uni among themselves. the faculty, and studen 'noi'
