Harriers Finished Winning Season on All Levels CROSS COUNTRY PEP SQUAD: Bottom Row: Candy Rusboldt, Linda Cale, Lori Bonk. Top Row: Diane Rodig, Gail Ferguson, Laurie Bonk, Peggy Bell. Until the 1970-1971 season, the Cross Country Team never achieved Winning records on all three levels. With thirteen wins and eight losses, the varsity squad, coached by Mr. Bill Mohrmann, completed its most successful season in four years, Bill Bates, the Most Valuable Player, and Ted Francsis, who set a school record of 14:25 for 2.75 miles, combined their abilities to lead the team to a seventh-place finish in the Mid-Suburban League Conference. At the Maine West Center Invitational, the varsity har- riers, all but two of whom were juniors, placed second in a field of eighteen rival teams. Both the sophomore and freshman teams, headed by Coach David Brown, showed a signi- ficant amount of potential, insuring strong squads for future seasons. The sophomores' dual record, 15-3-1, earned them second place in conference competition. While sophomore Rich Jensen achieved a record-breaking time of 10:01 for 1.85 miles, Jim Wise, the fresh- man's Most Valuable Player, also set a record on his level for the 1.85 mile run. Finishing in fourth place in the conference, the freshmen posted a combined win-loss record of 11-3. Th- eleven wins marked the most victories eve achieved by a Forest View freshman cross country team.
