Conlunued from page 5 To that class of 30 years ago us due credut for settung the precedents for many of the tradutuons stull beung followed The adoptuon of a school rung Senuor Inaugural and Farewell Assemblues June Week actuvutues pruor to graduatuon and the Loyalty Song are but a few of theur many contrubutuons They also helped select the officual school colors emerald green symboluc of aspuratuon growth and optumustuc hope and sulver gray symboluc of steadfastness and sterlung worth In 1926 the school flag was adopted the school tower un gray on a green background patterned after the munucupal flag The mam prolect of the uunuor class was the annual presentatuon of the Jolly Junuor Jubulee guven In cooperation wuth the faculty and the other classes Forest Park was unuque among the hugh schools of the cuty un that ut was the first to guve benefits such as these whuch often netted the treasury as much as two thousand dollars Thus event was duscontunued durung World War II and has been guven only twuce sunce then Two unter estung polucues whuch are no longer pursued are the organuza tuon of the sophomores as a class and the pruvulege extended to each class to elect its own advuser lClass advusers are now selected by the Pruncupall In 1929 the first February commencement was held and sunce that tume there have been two graduatung classes each year un February and un June The earluest commencements were held at the Lyruc theater After the first class graduated an alumnu assocuatuon was formed wuth the aum of doung some thung to show that unterest and love of Forest Park exusts even after leavung the school Among other actuvutues the Alumnu sponsors a dance semu annually un honor of the graduatung class Another organuzatuon outsude the school was the Parent Teacher Assocuatuon whuch became actuve after 1924 to assust the school un whatever ways possuble Although ut was dus banded before the second World War ut was successfully reorganuzed un 1952 as the Forest Park Assocuatuon As tume went on the uncrease of annual enrollment made MISS NORA BRAINARD Throughout the years of Forest Park s exustence, many teachers have left the faculty due to euther returement or death On January 29 1955 Muss Nora Braunard teacher of art, passed necessary a new buuldung for the .lunuor Hugh department of Forest Park ln 1932 the Garruson .lunuor Hugh School opened wuth the seventh eughth and most of the nunth grades from our school after whuch followed a reorganuzatuon of the enture senuor hugh unut Durung thus new era un the hustory of Forest Park several faculty changes were made The first of these un 1933 followed the passung of Muss Annabelle Lee Whute who had succeeded Muss Patterson as Vuce pruncupal A sun dual now stands on the front campus as a memorual to Muss Whute Her posutuon was filled very capably by Muss Sophue Becker whose remarkable leadershup has done much to make Forest Park the fine school ut us today The second mauor change un admunustratuon occurred when Mr Wendell E Dunn came to Forest Park from the Mudwest to fill the post of Prun cupal after the resugnatuon of Mr Owens un 1935 Mr Dunn contunued and uncreased efforts to keep Forest Park un a place of dugnuty and unfluence un Baltumore a polucy whuch Mr Owens had successfully unaugurated and carrued out durung hus admunustratuon When the war was over un 1945 Forest Park agaun went back to normal Many of uts teachers returned and new ones were added to the staff Durung the war the resugnatuon of came the new assustant to Mr Dunn In Aprul 1946 a Muddle Atlantuc Assocuatuon of Secondary Schools and Colleges commuttee of twenty sux members vusuted the school for three days and evaluated ut un nune areas such as staff curruculum student actuvutues etc accordung to Ells Evaluatuve Cruterua Theur study resulted un the schools re ceuvung a ratung of Very Superuor un seven of the nune areas and Hugh Superuor un the other two To the best of our knowl edge thus ratung us unexcelled Durung the first 30 years of uts exustence Forest Park has graduated almost 11000 students uncludung the class of 1955 However we all know that the hustory of our Alma Mater wull never close for Foresters wull always contunue to Enter to learn and go forth to serve away Her death means a great loss to the school that has, durung all ,QM these years, profited by her sense of beauty and her warm understandung of the students pruvuleged to work under her The faculty has lost a fruend, and the students of Baltumore wull muss her guudance, her Interest un all of theur prouects, and her gentle counsellung Throughout the enture east ern Unuted States can be found boys and gurls successful un art careers, who have attauned theur success as a result of her unspuratuon, and count less others, less talented, who have had theur luves forever enruched by knowung her ' I I . . We were ioining a group of lwo lhousand boys and girls who had already made Foresl' Park lheir home. and now i'l was our privilege 'lo par'licipa'le in 'lhe very aclivilies which bound lhese sludenls 'lo lhe Green and Gray. We learned lhe same subiecls 'lhey had been 'laugh'l . . . we ioined clubs lo which 'lhey belonged . . . we look a vi'laI par'l in lhe year aclivilies 'lha'l had become 'lradilion al Fores'l Park.
