Sfosied r Forest Lake High School 6101 Scandia Tr. No. Forest Lake, Minnesota Cruising the mall for the perfect jeans, swing- ing on a sailboard for the last time, stocking up on twenty-nine cent notebooks at Target and setting the alarm for 5:30 am all proved that summer was officially over and school bells would replace the blast of 101 as the morning blast of sound. Whether riding the bus or fight- ing for a space in the lot, the move into fall brought along a new senior class, seasoned Juniors, and fresh sophomores. Labor Day re- minded us all there's no turning back to sum- merl 3 mf School is not a downer for everyone. In ten year's reunion talk will fondly center around the great things that happened in high school. There are some things that happen in our lives which could have only happened because we chose to attend school. For kids who choose to attend, school sponsored events were the source of some pretty terrific memories. 1. Band trips make for some pretty great sight seeing, such as Canada and the Rockies. 2. School Spirit Is a good reason to build and sponsor a float for the homecoming parade with friends 3 Katie Overbo smiles happily as she computes the days left before commencement and the senior all-night party 4 Joe DuFresne and Bill Headley get photographed in Calgary while out sight-seeing for themselves. 5 We test the rules Changing grades, beginning a new school year, another new assistant principal, and i.d. cards confronted us as '88-'89 began. Subtler changes involved new rules. Seniors learned that only students with enough credits would be participating in commencement. Attendance was taken every hour. In School Restriction (ISR) returned. Parking privileges were limited to seniors. Classroom tardies were monitored, letters sent home, and detentions earned. Doors closed at the eight o'clock bell and passes were needed. But soon everyone was used to the changes and settled into the routine. and learn the ropes 6 1. Jenny Reetz and Chris Thayer wait for the lunch bell to ring so they could go the fifth hour. 2. Abby Lay uses class time to get her homework done, instead of saving it for later. 3. With the threat of detention, there's not much time for visiting in the halls or at their lockers 4. Brent Houle and Charlie Walker obey the weight room rule about lifting partners and spotting to cut on Injuries. W' 7 Balancing time among school, jobs, families, and friends keeps students in constant motion. No student is without the pressures of assignments, deadlines, and grades. Add a car payment, job, insurance, and a social life, and it is no wonder that kids find it hard to set priorities. It is also no surprise that some gave up trying to balance it all and put one thing first. For some, it was school, but for many, jobs or friends won the battle of priorities. Jt% w 1 Sewing projects require problem solving and allow discussion of projects. 2. Rhonda Litke and Roxanne Kelly find that a few minutes left at the end of class are preferably used for talk rather than getting last minute details done. 3. Longer library hours are helpful for Brian Kjellberg, while Jane Lambertson finds the IBM checkout system speeds her work as a volunteer In the library. 4 Janelle Daniels uses precious minutes In class to finish her work so she has one less book to carry home for the night. 1. Swimmers Amy Haas and Jenny Johann work out every day and still find time to keep up their grades 2 Dancers In “Oklahoma found that long rehearsals required them to be fit and ready to repeat dances until they were just right 3 Not only were team practices needed, players discovered that weight training enhanced their skills 4 For students not involved In sports, time after school could be devoted to extra work on science assignments 5. Cory Onell bolts down a burger and shake between play practice and football, meaning that homework would have to wait until practice was over around ten. $ $ V°- ' o'C'0 0° 0 °%0 a Vv® V°V° V A ocV °! .' 0 AS tO° vNt0 A 0 v(VN 11 1. Mike Lelie and friends take time out from their hectic schedules to attend the back to school dance sponsored by the student council. 2. A large number of students run to their lockers at the 2:30 bell and become Rangers for a few hours, giving time to participate in the sports offered as extracurricular activities. 3. Teachers give up personal and vacation time to do extra activities, such as trips to Calgary where band members give free beauty consultation 4 Ron Sherwood and Lisa Olson rush off to meet a deadline, just as the rest of the students all dash to their appointments too. 12 Too much to do, and too little time to get it all done is a common plight of students and teachers. Being in a rush made us all feel part of a huge treadmill running in circles. RUSH ... to get ready ... to meet the bus... or to get a place to park ... to get to our lockers... to beat the 8:00 bell ... to bolt down lunch ... to get to work ... to get some sleep ... to start all over again the next morning. 13 A Senior 14 15 WHAT WILL I DO WITH MY LIFE? What do I want to do with my life? Should I get a job. go to college, vo-tech. or join the army? Do I have enough credits to graduate? Should I take the ACT? the SAT? Though the life of a senior holds pressures, decisions, and mixed emotions about the future, ask any senior what his or her fondest memories are and you will receive the same response — “My senior year was the most exciting. As the year began, we seemed to take life easy and carefree. All too sudden the year has flown by and the future is closer than some seniors want to imagine. Not only is the so- called “real world just around the corner, but seniors began to realize that the security of life as a high school student was coming to an end. Taking a melancholy look back on the year, many seniors remember their last first day of school, last homecoming and Snow week. Prom, senior week, not to mention the sports events, dances, parties, and other special times spent with friends. Through the years our friends and teachers were important facets in our lives. They have shared our memories, guided our achievements, and were always there through the good and bad times to lend a helping hand. As spring approached, we looked forward to commencement and graduation parties. But the realization that it is hard to say good-bye began to hit home. For some, saying good-bye seemed like too much of a concluding statement. As a class, we looked forward in other moments to graduating and being remembered as fulfilling our hopes and dreams, as well as a feeling that we didn't really say good-bye — just “see you again when we can sit down and share friendships, remember all we learned, talk about the teachers we enjoyed, and laugh about the hard times, and smile about the memories, tears and good times we hoped would never be forgotten. 16 Dan Johnson, Amy Bolier, and Brian Lenk help on the “assembly line getting Ranger signs ready for homecoming sales. Concerns over safety, parade length, dismissal time, types of units in the parade, and student slogans were raised as possible areas for discussion and revision. As a result a study committee was formed and changes put in place for the '89 parade For sure, limos will be prohibited in the future The committee's suggestions will ensure better student supervision and safety, but in no way change the goal of the event. School spirit will prevail and the fun will carry on. Senior Royalty lend a hand to marketing by modeling headbands Limo slogan FLOCK OFF'' caused a stir for some viewers of the parade 37 Students Create Signs. Headbands. .. Miss Paulson gives up time to speak at coronation and be the parade grand marshal Banner carriers Lisa Pankratz and Gail Deick put in long hour marching with the band, often in ninety degree weather Kevin Will takes advantage of time available in the weight room to train. Helping out with a feature, modeling some trendy clothes means trying lots of shots. What Keeps Us Going? School is more than just classes. It involves willingness to forgo an after school job to be in a sport, club, or plan an event like a parade, march in the band, lift to train for a sport, or stand in the student council room popping tons of popcorn for fans. Have you had a BAD Hair day? All those millions of dead cells sitting on top of your head refuse to be curled, combed, or sprayed into submission. You're trying to arrange some pattern that will look presentable to your peers, but it just WON'T WORKII I'm talking about a Bad Hair Day. You spend three times the normal amount of time spent on your hair, almost miss the bus, and you still don't like how it turned out. Aha! you think. Til fix it when I get to school! However, by the time you get to school there is so much hairspray in your hair it's hopeless. I know, you guys are saying to yourselves, I don't use hairspray, but then guys don't know the meaning of a Bad Hair Day. I mean, let's face facts. A guy wakes up in the morning and he may or may not wash his hair. If he decides not to, he simply PUTS A HAT ON. It's just not fair. A girl would be ostracized if she came to school with a baseball cap on. But I'm getting off track. After your hair doesn't work, nothing goes right. You lose your homework, you fail a test, and for the life of you, you just don't seem to be able to get a hold of a writing utensil. A Bad Hair Day is usually a day in which you want to go home, get into bed, and pull the covers over your ugly head. Is it a spiral perm or did Mother Nature give Jessica Wahlberg the curls which help make life easier in front of the mirror in the morning? Like Anna Gallagher, Chris Keeney, and Minda Suchan, a lot of us arrive at school wondering just how much anyone else notices our hair. A little checking shows that we worry about a lot more than anyone else seems to notice. 44 Val Taylor finds that the arsenal needed to keep bad hair days in tow includes plenty of mousse, spray, a good brush, and a good cut. Betsy Postma's long blond tresses may have lots of options but they may not keep her from having bad hair days too. The shorter hair styles might prevent hair hassles for guys who choose them. or a GOOD HAIR DAY I'm having a really groovy day. What's the cause of this groovy day? My hair worked. You know, those days when you get up in the morning and your hair does just what you want it to do. These days are a precious few and therefore, earn the name Good Hair Day. But not only is your hair good, everything else is good, too. Maybe you find out you did well on that test you were just a little concerned about. Or maybe that cute boy at the end of your locker bay says hi as he walks by you. Maybe you even get your quarter back after you make a call from the pay phone. It all boils down to this: if your hair looks good, everything else seems to just fall into place so you end up feeling good, too. And when you feel good, you have a good day. A Good Hair Day, that is. Guys like Matt White who opt for longer styles might find that they have “hair days too. 45 46 STYLE . . . The way a person dresses should reflect their personality.” — Marc Sieber, 1988. This statement is really true. By now — in high school that is — we've all formed our own style of dress. Whether we like it or not. we're first perceived by our looks. Marc Sieber and Bill Headley often showed up to school in very lovely sweaters accompanied by sweat pants. For them, it was for days when you want to look respectable, but simultaneously want to feel comfortable '' This, of course, is very important when you consider how many hours of your day are actually spent at school!! Besides, how could you ever fall asleep in class if you weren't comfy?! Whether it's a leather jacket and jeans, a suit and a tie, or perhaps bell-bottoms and flowers (you never know!!), we all have a favorite (well, most of us) outfit. It's that skirt and top, pants and sweater, pair of shoes, or whatever that just screams YOU. OK. Maybe there are a couple of fashion victims who let others dictate what they will wear, and perhaps some just dress for others, but a lot of us dress for ourselves. We wear what makes us feel good. Oh!, alright, so sometimes we want to make a good impression or an outrageous statement, but hey!, wouldn't it have been boring to have walked down the halls of Forest Lake High School in 1988-89 and to have seen only everyone in the same clothes every day?! Kristy Hegberg. Jennie Millington, Mandy Sykora. Katie Pogreba, and Amy Miller are all recognized for their individual flair in choosing an outfit. The eclectic look is not new to Shane Christenson and Amy Bolier Working closely together in band can make for close friendships, but seeing the trombone section of Scott Norquist. Steve Isaacs. Jason Kolodjski, Jeff Smith. Lisa Frost and Jim Masloski dressed alike in flannel may have started a new FL trend. Marc Sieber and Bill Headley show off the look that is respectable, but not too dressed up for school. Barb Jones, Margie Peisert. and Jenny Borash sport different looks but fit into the fashion scene at school. For Nancy Hanson and Ginger Swanson the total look is essential, even including the hairstyle. There is no one style or trend that fits the mold at school, as demonstrated by Travis Grabau, Jeff Placzek. and Thad Dahlberg 47 FUTURES . . . By the time we had hit our sophomore year we couldn't escape the word future'' anymore. Everything in school seemed to point to those years when we'd be on our own, paying our own way. And we will look back with awe that we could buy a lunch for ninety cents, and still have time like Ann Wolfgram (1) to visit with friends. Choices of after school activities might influence our future choices but for sure the time they take up will take away time from a job. Tom Edelen (2) might find that his time in speech and debate really prepared him for a job later. Becky Sikkink (3) stops at her locker, a rite to be forgotten when we have graduated. The security of school and its routine provide a comfort zone, even if it means putting up with crowded locker bays and hall. A lot of students really rely on counselors like Mr. Grove to guide them in decisions about post high school plans. (4) By the time they are seniors, students like Pat Lynch (5) may have tried many activities and a job to test their interests. Getting good grades, as well as maintaining a job at Setterholm's might have kept Gretchen Peterson busy, but they also gave her a chance to prove her dependability to future employers. (6) Mr. Chalberg has answered the question How will this geometry help me in my life? (7) but it takes a few years to appreciate the ability to reason and think on more than one level. Top paying jobs require degrees and skill in thinking, even if a lot of us haven't thought about it yet. In political science Ms. Menken helps students analyze the political system, (8) but it might take a few years on the job and learning civic duties like voting and choosing candidates before someone from FLHS runs for office. What are you going to be when you GROW UP? Futures are what we dream of when we're young, try to put off when we're getting along in age, and what we're either deathly afraid of or anxiously awaiting when we're in high school. Time seems to go much faster than it once did. Things come upon you before you have even had time to think about them. Whereas your future once seemed to go no further than graduation, it now means (oh) — so much more. Multitudes of questions and options loom through our minds. Should I go to college? Should I please my parents and get a good job making lots of money? Should I join the Peace Corps? Should I take backpacking hitchhiking biking trip through Europe? Should I join the Marines? Should I move to California and live on the beach like a bum, or try to make it big? Should I run for office? The rest is in the future ... 49 Students often need to squeeze in time to see counselors like Mr. Motschenbacher. School sports can fill up long hours of athletes' lives who give up time to train and practice. Detention students check in with secretaries, such as Mrs. Johnson, who will keep track of their attendance. Chris Kessler and Jennie Atkinson take time to visit while waiting for the 7:59 bell. Mr. Altavilla offers cheerful help on troublesome geometry problems. Students find Schedules full There is just no time to do any extras! Tim© was the word that com© up in an informal survey asking students what they would change about their lives as a student. Time problems fit into categories which looked pretty universal. For instance, seniors claimed that they would have given more time to studies if they had known in tenth grade what they know now. Some juniors also felt that was a problem, but more of them just felt that they had so many commitments it was a pain finding ways to budget their time to juggle jobs, sports, school work, and be at home so parents wouldn't complain about them being gone all the time. On the other hand, a few students mentioned that time seemed to be going so slow, that they were just counting off the quarters until they could get out of here. Interestingly, some students complained that they had too much time on their hands. This complaint came mostly for sophomores who arrived home from the 2:30 bus and were trapped in their houses with food. TV and homework, if they bothered to bring it home. Without a car or a job to fill time, other kids in all three classes chose to fill their schedules to the MAX so they wouldn't have to worry about boredom — just how to find enough time to do it all. 51 Kelly Larson finds that the yearbook ads and book sales take up all her spare time when not working at McDonald's. Mrs. Thaemert is the health aide who handles health emergencies for high school students, such as notifying all the tenth graders who need to update their infant shots for measles and rubella. Mrs. Ensrud. Mr. Moskop. and Mrs. Bakken handle printing of all materials used in our building, as well as special projects from other schools. Students can actually plan and sew a complete outfit in school in Mrs Karls' class Did you know that... There was a lot more for kids to do at FLHS than just go to classes? For example, someone has to print all those tests we took. Or who did you think called home to check your attendance? Because we do not have a school nurse in our building, there is an aide who handled health emergencies. Teachers also do more than just teach five classes. Before we saw any assignments they wrote objectives and planned how to present lessons, yet they were available to help before and after school. Some even gave up their duty-free lunches to tutor a student. Smart kids looked into school options and discovered programs which allowed kids to leave the building and participate in special programs for credit. Many teachers gave up time to do extra- curricular and a large number of kids used the activities. Kids who checked out what was available found their lives a little better because of the extras available Mrs Storm will schedule students In childcare and early childhood settings to work with real kids. Students such as Karl Wagner experienced the creation, advertising, and marketing of a product in Mr. Anderson's class. 53 An Academic 54 55 Mike Altavllla Math Deb Bendlx Speech Alan Anderson Business 1 Rena Benedict Science Chuck Anderson Social. Reality set in. I am back to School, said a small voice I am trying to ignore. Then the memories of summer set in. Summer was wonderful. Remember the routine? As I drag myself out of bed I remember there wasn't one. Days started as late as summer nights ended. After three months no one was fully ready to return to school. Then after a few weeks, something registered that the school routine was getting easy. Maybe it was because we knew that summer would roll around again. For now, we had to learn the names of new teachers, get used to new rules, and STUDY. Putting in time on the IBM means that Mr. Buys practices what he preaches. Junior Branson Industrial Ed. Good planners added electives which rounded out their schedules and gave them chances to do more than study the basics. Some claimed the six hour day kept them from getting all the classes they wanted. Others felt they had enough hard classes to study as it was. Some school board members urged a study of the issue, so seven period days, trimesters, and credit requirements became the focus of a study. The class of '90 or '91 might see changes in their academic lives. 1989 was the year those changes were proposed. Doug Peltier Athletic Dir. Kevin Rivard Sharon Rose Industrial Ed. Susie Kasma and Miss Paulson share a brief moment before the Homecoming coronation. Seniors log 3000 hours After three years, the seniors have logged thirty six classes, learned from thirty six teachers, and spent almost three thousand hours in classes. At commencement they will recall the good or days, but in between ninth grade and graduation, the reality was noisey buses, loads of homework, a crowded parking lot, rushed lunches, stuffed locker bays, crowded halls, and one hundred and eight weeks of school lunches. Students saw this as putting in time or, at the other extreme, as time well spent for a diploma. 1. Sophomores and parents spend a hot August night at orientation, where class pictures could be taken early Frustration set in when the computer broke down. 2. Industrial arts students not only have to complete projects but also schedule time for clean-up. 3. Mrs. Zeller finds herself working longer days to make the extended hours in the library possible for students after school 4 Teachers Hansen and Hahn use time in the lounge to work and catch up on the news. 5. Jason Kolodjski and Laura Theroux give up time to be in the musical and then find they have long hours of school projects to finish too 6. Dan Becker and Josh Fedderly enjoy themselves in Calgary, one of the perks of taking a class like band that involves trips and extracurricular responsibilities. 6 67 2 1. Shop classes cover a lot of area and provide plenty of activity for the teacher to supervise. 2. Roxanne Kelly enjoys a minute to talk before the final bell rings. 3. Mr. McElrath uses a costume to lighten up his lecture. 4. P.E. classes allow students to get active during the day, even if it does mean waiting some of the time. 5. Science class requires some lectures, but Mrs. Somrock also gives plenty of hands-on work in biology. 7. Jean Schroeder just smiles. She has no comment on whether any classes are boring. 68 Students Claim Boredom Problem The tapping of pencils, the crumpling of paper, and a light snore is heard from the back of the classroom. This is students while bored in a classroom. Many students do different things while bored in class such as: sleep, count ceiling tiles, write notes, and whisper among friends. Teachers have a number of ways to make the class more exciting like: using simulation games, trying not to use the text as much as possible, and relating the topic of the discussion to things the students are more focused on. The students have a few suggestions of their own on how to make the class more interesting, such as: wider variety of activities, more group work, watch more movies, no overheads. It is in our interest that both teachers and students realize the long struggle with boredom. Also, realizing the difference in the opinions of teachers and students. 7 69 Who's Responsible For Rules and Policies? Although the school board is responsible for the rules and policies, most of what they set and enforce is the result of recommendations from parents, teachers, or administration. Each principal directs his staff to carry out district rules and policies set by board action. 1. Mr. Moskop runs AV and sees that materials are available for teachers on a smooth cheeck out system. Girls' basketball players, as in all other sports, must sign and follow a rules sheet put out by the State High School League 3. Paul Torgerson uses the library and computers on a regular basis, but is there only because he follows the guidelines for its use. 4. Deb Furstenberg coaches and subs in the district and knows the range of cooperation given by students in response to various rules. 5. Joyce Leslie helps kids with chemical problems but also works with kids In the AT AC (All Together Against Chemicals) group support their efforts to have chemical free activities. 6. Study halls are supposed to be quiet study environments and some students actually use them to study. 7.1. Reynolds — Principal 8. R. Cooper — Assistant Principal 9. D. There seem to be no direct benefits for the school district, but some benefits to students or parents who seek other location. About thirty families K-12 have changed schools, mostly elementary students whose parents can make easier connections for childcare. Some former high school students claim they made the change to schools which have lower graduation requirements, but there are no official statements or statistics to prove their claims. 1 Mr. Henderson is on a study committee examining the seven period day as a way of meeting needs of students who want to take more classes. Many teachers and students feel that an extra class a day would only benefit a small number of students and actually make it harder for others to graduate. 2. There is no limit to the ideas offered in Mrs Benedict's physics class. 3. An AP History class is taught by Mr. Tungseth. 4. Mr. Conner's calculus class meets the needs of high level math students. 5. The vocal music department might be getting smaller but the quality of music still has a huge appeal and plenty of talent is represented there. 73 School keeps us busy Everything that happens from the time students get on the bus until we arrive home at 3:00 affects our curriculum. 1. Wad© Gerten and Craig Gillen stroll to their next class. 2. Tiffany Fladland and Linda Leroux find that the halls at FLHS can be quite shocking. 3. Some students choose phy-ed classes as a way to keep in shape and also as a relaxing hour in their day. 4. Pete Humphreys bared it all, and got wet in a memorable ninth grade IPS class. 5. Deutsch schulerin sprechen fur Mark. 6. The football players prove that they are always cordial. 7. Gretchen Petersens father enjoys a humorous moment at the Student Recognition ceremony. 75 Head custodian Mick runs a power broom in the lunch room fifth hour to clear debris from the floor. Student council concessions bring in cash but the garbage left in the cafeteria is not tossed, making extra work for the custodial crew. Mr. Olson runs the mega- vac after lunch but also during the day so that halls remain clear and neat looking. 76 A super efficient lunch room system delivers food on time every day. The Martyrdom of Peter Ohey Imagine yourself sitting down for a nice quiet relaxing evening, when suddenly a woman barges in and proceeds to inform you that there is a tiger living in your bath- room Would you believe her? Probably not. This is exactly what the Ohey family in this year's one-act play experiences. The Martyrdom of Peter Ohey, an absurd- ist farce by Polish playwright Slawomir Mrozek, opens in the Ohey home where we see Peter Ohey, his wife, and daughter. (Chas Mastin, Cricket Osterbauer, and Jes- sica Wahlberg). Soon they are visited by many odd char- acters including a stern official (Kristen Man- smith), a flamboyant tax collector (Dan Johnson), an absent minded scientist (Dominic Vecchiollo), a clownish circus manager (Craig Prosser), and a profound old Russian hunter (Marc Sieber) The situation is complicated when a ditsy foreign office representative (Kiersten Moratzka), announces that a Maharajah wishes to hunt the tiger. All of the characters work together to provide an interesting and unexpected ending. 1. Peter Ohey, You’re the oner 2. Homecoming '88 Activities Keep Students Active And Entertained Every day of Homecoming '88 had a theme, which added the usual chaos to the halls and classrooms. As usual, some kids really got into the spirit and others could not have told what all the costumes were for. One change in the focus this year was to encourage students to attend all the sporting events of the week, making each sport's contest a homecoming event, rather than just focusing on the football game. The coronation was highlighted by great speeches from returning royalty and teacher Joan Paulsen. Lynn Mansmith and Paul Schwab were elected by the student body to represent FLHS as Homecoming King and Queen. They reigned over the bonfire and on Friday, the pepfest and parade. The biggest crowd of the week gathered at the football game on Friday to see the Rangers take on the Coon Rapids Cardinals. A spirited half time show by the marching band and a loud rock band at the poorly attended dance ended the week. 1. Volleyball players add team spirit to the parade. 2. Swimmers from the girls' team cheered throughout the parade route 3. King Paul is crowned. 4. “The Ranger meets the queen 5. Queen Sheila and King Tom return to pass on the crowns. 6. Thought of too often as a weak, ineffective, jello- like understudy to Mr. Reagan, the light skimmed over him . . . until now. After an outstanding victory over Michael Dukakis, George Herbert Walker Bush was declared the 41st president of the United States Bush's victory makes him the first sitting vice-president to be elected to the oval office since Martin Van Buren in 1836. It is also the first time in over forty years (since F.D.R. and H.S.T.) that the same party has controlled the White House for more than two consecutive terms. Looking back on the sometimes-a- bit-dirty campaign trail we see a few stones and some major obstacles. This race for the oval office has had a lot of obvious clash: Abortion, The Death Penalty, Taxes, Deficits. Arms Control, Pledge of Allegiance, and Prison Furlough Programs (to name a few big ones.) With Americans glued to their sets the candidates appeared. With Mr. Dukakis playing the part of the debater”, and Mr Bush appearing as an honest, sensitive friend” it was hard for the debate to reveal any real individual advantages that would outweigh, but each party threw in some icebreakers and soon the debate was underway. There was a highly emotional aspect to each issue and each issue was attacked differently. Both men put up a fight and the American public was not disappointed. (J. The year has started once more. Everyone goes to the places most familiar to them, all except one group of people, the Sophomores. This unique group of people wanders, for this is their first time in school. The signs of fear are visible in their eyes as they try to find their first period class. They feel secure only while in the confines of the classroom, but, when in the halls dart frantically for the next class. Stress is a major part of their lives. Stress of fitting in with the crowds, stress and fear of getting lost, and stress of getting beat up by upperclassmen. The first week is probably the most stressful part of their lives. But they endure. Driven on by the promise of an education. Also driven on by the thought of next year they will not be the bottom of the ladder anymore. You can't please everyone all of the time. This is one thing we found out by being editors of this year's book. Trying to get pictures scheduled, working with student photography, and dealing with our own severe procrastination proved to be hectic. Everything did seem to turn out okay, although it wouldn't have had it not been for Mrs. Carleen Onell. the yearbook advisor. The book had Its start last summer at Gustavus Adolphus College in St Peter, Minnesota. There. Amy Pogreba. Jean Schroeder, and Valerie Taylor attended a 5-day workshop given by the Taylor Publishing Company. They worked on cover design, theme, division pages, etc. As school started and the year progressed, jobs and other extra- curricular activities often conflicted with the yearbook. Pam and Kelly were kept especially busy — they had to sell ads and raise money to pick up excess costs. We did, however, end up having a great time, and we were also very pleased with the book .. .
