Damn Yankees: The Devil Made Me Do It The strike nearly cancelled performances of the fall musical, “Damn Yankees.” Although cast members rehearesed under community auspices, regrouping and rescheduling were the order of business when we returned to school. Deadlines were compressed and somehow when the lights dimmed and the curtains parted the FLHS stage was transformed into a musical extravaganza. It was a high energy musical based on the theme of selling one’s soul to the devil. Strong performances by theatre veterans and exciting debuts by new-comers made “Damn Yankees” unforgettable. Sometimes we sympathized with the efforts of Mr. Applegate (John Joachim) and the futility of his plans. A sensuous Lola (Julie Ruddy) made putting ones whole body into work an eye opening experience. Henry Hebert directed the production. w 1 Senior John Joachim made a thoroughly sympathetic devil in the guise of Applegate. Tim Mansmith and Jolene Sunsten reconciled after his disappearance in an attempt to save the Senators. Kris Cohoes and Jan Banta berate a surprised Joe LaCasse. 28 Fall Musical

Mr. Hebert molded a broad cross-section of the student body into a capable performing unit. It’s a battle of the sexes as the ■‘boys’’ talk baseball and the “girls try to get them to do the chores in this production number from Damn Yankees. Flying feet and high spirits filled the stage as the Senators and their fans perform. The boys tell it like it is in the game of baseball. You gotta have heart. The pit band provided a variety of musical accompaniment for the chorus and actors. Fall Musical 29
