Homecoming Rein of Error Thwarts Mustang Recall Activity is synonomous with Homecoming in Ranger country. A variety of kooky and clever contests were combined with the gracious ceremony of the coronation, the vocal enthusiasm of the pepfest and game, the pulsing pagentry of the parade and bonfire and the oomp-pa-pas at the Alumni Polka. Student Council planned extra surprises like a balloon raise at the game and coupons for the purchase of hats, shirts and buttons. This year that old school spirit seemed to return after many thought the flame had died. Battle Cry was never louder than during the pep-fest this year. Then there was Lutz and the growl heard ’round the world. Even though the weather was a bit wet, it didn’t dampen the spirit of the Mighty Rangers! RIGHT: The game was exciting and dry after a week of rain. Unfortunately, there wasn’t a dry eye when the clock ran out. Mounds View Royalty, Clyde Nordshonovik and Gilda Munchavinski, showed up for the festivities. BELOW: Queen Julie, King Larry lead the torch parade with Larry Peterson providing the sacrificial Mustang BELOW RIGHT: 1981 Homecoming candidates were: Larry Crouse, Larry Peterson, Steve Baland, Randie Schwab, Duke Remitz and Ron Trombley for King and Queen candidates Sherri Anderson, Julie Ruddy, Mary Jeans, Peggy Paulino, Jayne Foils and Sue Larson. 22 Homecoming

Summer Band: On the Road Again . Summer was the “pits for our Forest Lake Band . . . cherry pits, that is! The band traveled to Traverse City, Michigan for the National Cherry Festival where they were viewed by approximately 250,000 people via a 7-state telecast. Shortly after the opening of school, September 27, they headed north once more. Tubas, piccolos, coolers, bedrolls and cameras were loaded on the bus headed for Winnepeg. Performing at half-time for the Winnepeg Blue Bombers football game was their mission. Mission accomplished: MOST MAGNIFICENTLY! Band members hit the road for the Cherry Festival Parade in beautiful downtown Traverse City. Jeff Thomas served as drum major on this trip. 24 Summer Band
