Blistery Homecoming Because of the season's first snowstorm, the Homecoming game was held on Monday, October 10th. “Cook the Cardinals and have a Ranger Roast”, was the slogan chosen for the week’s festivities. To start with, on Monday the juniors took on the mighty seniors in the traditional powder puff’ game, with a tying score of 6-6 in overtime. The fate of the game was decided by the flip of a coin, in the seniors favor. Forest Lake’s first disco dance came after, with pronto pups to eat. Tuesday, all day the tension mounted as the Coronation Ceremony of the Homecoming King and Queen was awaited. That night the King and Queen helped judge skit night and a fine effort was made by all that participated. The winning skit was called “Oh, Them Golden Gritters”, by the “Seniors”. A car bash led the festivities on Wednesday during the lunches. Thursday night the 2nd Annual Homecoming Parade came through downtown. There were class floats, clowns, running football players, a band and the royalty. The cooking of the Cardinal was held after in the hockey rink along with a huge bonfire. On Friday there was a pepfest with the drum section marching down the hall playing the street beat with the cheerleaders doing a routine behind. Everyone assembled in the gym to watch the football players having a carameled apple race or in reality a carameled onion race. Then came the snow and the game was cancelled, but the Polka-Jacs still played for the Alumni-Polka. Long dresses and suits set the atmosphere of the Semi-formal, along with corsages, punch, and cake on Saturday night. After the weekend, Monday brought the rescheduled game. The weather didn’t dampen spirits though, as the Rangers cooked the Cards with a rousing score of 9-0. 1. Nancy Johnson stands up for her Golden Gritters while Jo Gunderson and Jody Proulx support her in the skit which captured first place. 2. Scott Henderson. Brad Werth and Rick Verner watch as Jeff Young takes his turn at the car bash. 3. Kathy Larson gains yardage for the juniors at the Powder Puff game. 4. The Crown Jewels of Homecoming await to be placed on the new King and Queen. 5. King Steve “Savage Sargeant reveals the nicer side of his personality, as he cooks the cardinal. 6. Dave Miller ponders over where he should fall in line in the Snake Dance. 7. There are mixed emotions as Sheri Wells. Dolly Hibbison, Donna Kroska, Roxanne Petermier. Shelly Lutz and Carol Coxen await the crowning. 8. Local merchants participate in the spirit of Homecoming. 18 Homecoming
