These groups, combined with hard work, patience, and loyalty, added up to the production of the annual. The copy staff, under the direction of Judy Keilen, worked late, long hours to complete their writing. Led by Debbi Hudak, the photog- raphy staff worked closely with Johnson Studio and the Forest Lake Times. Creating pleasing and artistic layouts was the job of Renee Briggs and her staff. Helped by Adviser C. Onell, Bonnie Dykhuizen and Robin Wiley worked hard to raise money and meet the rising cost of publication. Announcements and proofreading were two major tasks of efficiency editor Chris Schleising. Cooper- ation in crisis was the key to completion of the book on schedule. Breeze found itself experiencing many of the same prob- lems as Forester. Led by Adviser R. Streater, the compe- tent editors met their deadlines and kept FLHS informed of what was happening. The success of the Breeze can be credited to its editors’ leadership. FORESTER STAFF BACK ROW: Judy Hebert, Steve Havens, Cathy Dykhuizen, Renae Jones, Renae Langland. Debaters Triumph In North Suburban Planning homecoming activities was first on the agenda for the student council. The week was filled with fun as well as a lot of hard work and dedication from members. Besides the usual activities, a homecoming parade was added. The never-ending smoking issue was again worked on by student council members. Visits to the capital and the presentation of a bill at the state convention of stu- dent councils were headed by Rita Ersfeld. Kris Van Ni- spen and Karen Johnson were elected to the executive council of the capital division. The fall meeting and the spring convention of the division were held at Forest Lake. A week filled with Christmas activities was held the week before Christmas vacation. This year’s student council was one of the most successful ever, and much credit must be given to the five seniors on the executive council: Linda Madsen. Rita Ersfeld, Loral Peterson, Jeff Gauvin, and Dawna Lichtscheidl. This year the tradition of excellence was once again upheld by the Forest Lake High School debate team. Beginning in early October, the debaters argued criminal justice in approximately twenty tournaments, running through early February. This year’s topic was probably the hardest ever, according to coach Ralph Streater. But all participants at FLHS met with success, whether on the novice, jr. varsity or varsity level. One example of the strength of this year’s squad was a weekend in December when the varsity took both first and second at a tourna- ment in Mankato while the novice and junior varsity col- lected their trophies at Bloomington Jefferson. And that is only a fraction of the “hardware” that this year’s team collected. STUDENT COUNCIL OFFICERS: John Kelly.
