Lettermen Sponser Harlem Diplomats The 1976-77 pep club, now in its second year, elected Brenda Houle as President and Kathy Zeller as secretary. Class representatives Karen Shalander, Debbie Nieder- korn, and Teri Lindstrom worked together with their ad- viser, Mrs. Teichner, and over 70 students to promote school spirit throughout the year. To distinguish pep club members, gold sweaters were purchased and chevrons were made available, according to the number of years a member participated. The pep club also sold pom-pons, and worked hand-in-hand with the cheerleaders in mak- ing announcements and posters for the teams and fans throughout the year. Sitting by the gates of the football field, lettermen sold stadium cushions to raise money. Providing entertain- ment for the Forest Lake audiences, the Harlem Diplo- mats, a basketball team from Canada, played the Forest Lake faculty and Jaycees. Bob Dettmer and Rick Ander- son were the advisors for the Lettermen, with Bart Reh- bein as president, Andy Niemczyk as vice-president, and Bob Schmidt as secretary and treasurer. Initiation was held in both the fall and winter. Taking up trays, reciting poetry, and obeying the lettermen’s every command were the initiates duties. The lettermen sponsored a pol- ka to begin Christmas vacation and to celebrate a basket- ball victory. Representing all sports, the lettermen added a lot to FLHS. PEP CLUB. BACK ROW: Nancy Kubes. The club’s goal is to build skills in the areas of personal growth, vocational planning, family commitment and community involvement. Experience in these areas was gained through numerous projects in school and Forest Lake. The Future Farmers of America is also a goal oriented organization. Major objectives were met through individual, school and community projects. Popular and prosperous, these included the Christmas tree sales, flower promotions and the treasure hunt during FFA Week.
