A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRESIDENT God gave us our memories so that we might have roses in December. Barrie. The experiences of youth and the golden days of school life are the roses of December to be remembered when you enter the land of adulthood. You who make up the class of 1965 at Forest Lake Academy, and all the other youth coming along, may cherish and hold dear every moment spent in a Christian school. The fellowship enjoyed, the kinships cultivated will never be forgotten. Above all else, the bond of friendship with God developed in school will be your most valued possession with the passing of time. Life taught me her lesson; I hold it as truth. That a smile in the heart is the secret of youth; For age cannot harm him, nor do him a wrong, Who whistles a bit as he journeys along. The face must be wrinkled, the hair must be gray, But the heart may be young till the end of the day. Forever and ever there standeth this truth: A smile in the heart is the secret of Youth. . . . Yes, I mifeht say, Congra illa- tions! or Best Wishes! but these expression seem so shallow in comparison to the heartfelt de- sire I have for you to bring your lives into shtrp focus with the demands for a breed of Christians who are equal to the challenge of a confused world. Dare to be distinctive enough to stand out ifri a crowd, but not too different to be identified with the human race, its problems, its needs, fnd its aspirations J. F. Hamrick

Dear Students of Forest Lake Academy: As we approach the close of another school year and as some of you close the chapter Academy Days in your life, it is my sincere desire that while at Forest Lake Academy you have been encouraged, yes urged, to think — to think great and enno- bling thoughts. We are told that as a man thinketh so is he. When a man thinks great thoughts, it makes him a better man; it ennobles his character. We are ad- monished tliat we are to be original thinkers and not merely reflector of other men's thoughts. Have you ever given any thought to what you consider to be the greatest thought you have ever had? Many people -- philosophers, inspired teachers and wise men -- have down through the ages recorded their thoughts in books, essays, and etc., but the most important thought anyone has had or could yet have can be expressed in just two words, God is. Everything that man now is or ever hopes to be is the result of the great truth expressed in that thought. All things are a manifestation of it. Because God is, we are here are alive; we have souls. Let us, young people, always contemplate on this throughout life; let us think of this great truth morning and evening. Let us always show our gratitude to God and give Him our thanks that He is. 6
