Little or no change was noted in the fine and practical arts’ departments with the personnel remaining intact in both areas. Mary Ellen Ambroe was in charge of the home economics' classes. Wood shop and mechanical draw- ing were under the direction of Rob- ert Myers. Terry Crissey, besides teaching some wood shop classes, had some classes in power technol- ogy. Finally the metal shop duties were handled by John Roman- chock. The fine arts' department followed the same program as in previous years with Albert Damico teaching portrait drawing, water colors, leathercraft, and oil painting. Sam Coco directed the chorus and held the annual concerts at Christmas time and in the spring. Charles Can- nin, who was in charge of instru- mental music, prepared the march- ing band for half-time shows at foot- ball games as well for local parades. The concert band performed at the Christmas and Spring Concerts. The Arts Festival, held at the end of the year, gave the students an op- portunity to exhibit their work done in the various shops. 27

The biggest shake-up in depart- ments took place in the driver edu- cation area. Elias Kudrick and Jo- seph Soohy, who had taught driver education and safety education for the past few years were transferred to junior high to teach science and history respectively. Frank Krentz was transferred from the business education department to driver edu- cation which now has but one in- structor. The same programs of previous years were taught by Mr. Krentz. All sophomores were required to take a class of safety education as a requi- site to taking driver education in their junior or senior year. Six hours of individual driving instruction were necessary for a student to qualify for taking his driver’s test. In physical education Charles Sponsky and Penny Matlin shared the duties which included intramural basketball, kick ball, tennis, softball, wrestling, etc. Both gym teachers also taught health classes which dealt with the drug program, smoking, various types of sickness and other areas pertinent to the high school student.
