Michael Barton Assumes Department Chairman Over the past several years, the social studies department made a move from the traditional 36-week course to a 12-week modular course, which gave more flexibility to the instructor in teaching the course and more choices to the students in the selection of classes. The department continued moving on in updating materials in the three major areas - American Heritage, Oriental Cultures, and Political Science taught to the sopho- mores, juniors, and seniors respectively. Anthony Turchetta, chairman of the department, had taken a sabbatical leave and Michael Barton temporarily assumed the chairmanship. Mr. Barton continued the mock election pro- ceedings along with the field trip to the county seat, both of which aided the students to keep on the move in the world of politics. No major changes took place in the department, but the veteran crew continued to do their job of assisting the students to move on in their knowledge of history and social studies.
