KF 'Nm NN' The Future Homemakers of America is the national organization of pupils studying homemaking in junior and senior high schools of the United States and Territories. As an integral part of the program of home econom- ics in the schools of America it offers opportunity for the further develop- ment of pupil initiative in planning and carrying out activities related to homemakng. The Future Homemakers of America brings together state groups inter- ested in and working toward better home and family living, provides oppor- tunities to share in solving problems important to home life, and sponsors group projects, local, state and national in scope, it increases opportunities for the development of leadership and intelligent participation so much needed in a democratic society. The emblem of the Future Homemakers of America is octagonal in shape and bears the name of the organization, Future Homemakers of America, around the top of the plane while around the lower side of it is the motto, Toward New Horizons. ln the center there is a house supported by two hands which symbolizes that the future homes of America are in the hands of its youth. Future Farmers 01' America FIRST ROW: Ronald Fewell, Ronald l-lorn, Cary Kneisley, Mervyn Curran, Kay Albert, Ken- neth Wright, John Hooker, Raymond Woolley. SECOND ROW: Everett Woolley, Donald Flowers, Clayton Bash, Norman Hayes, Elmer Sey- mour, Louis McMaster, Bill Holtzmuller, Richard Stewart, Mr. Becker. THIRD ROW: Don Wilkins, Joe Conley, Vernon Hemmerly, Vincent Cramer, David Kauble, Leon Thacker, Estil Williams, Richard Wilcox. Purposes: To develop competent, aggressive, rural leadership. To strengthen the confidence of farm boys in themselves and their work. To participate in cooperative effort. To encourage and practice thrift. To encourage and provide for the development of organized rural res creational activities. Activities: Since our year begins June l, our first activity for the year took place in July. At that time we attended a baseball game in Cleveland. Numerous other activities in which we participated were a hay ride with the F.H,A., a banquet with the men of the faculty, a pest hunt and banquet, Christmas party with the F.H.A., Parliamentary Procedure Contest, Parent, Son and Daughter Banquet, and attendance at the State FEA. Camp. ln April two boys applied for State Farmer and one for American Farmer. Last, but not least, we entered the State Judging Contest at Columbus. ln our struggle to earn some money, we raised a field of corn, sold cards and candy, and sponsored a sausage supper and a bake sale. X' Motto: planning to spend the money on a trip this fall. One of our interesting projects for the year was the starting of a gilt chain. The chapter bought a Duroc gilt and gave it to a member to keep until next year when a gilt will be returned and given to some other boy who can use it in his project program.
