Webster gives us that difin- ition of science. Without sci- ence and without research labs, the technology of the human race would cease to exist. lt would simply die. With the help of' teachers who are willing to teach and students who are willing to learn, this could never hap- pen. Mr. Don Jackson has been the high school science teach' er for two school years, from 1983 to 1986. He teaches Gen' eral Science, Physical Sci- ence, Biology, Advanced Bi- ology ll, Chemistry, and Physics. ln the 86-87 school year he has plans for an Ad- vanced Earth Science class. His Advanced Biology ll class has been very actiactive. They have dissected seven cats and one shark. Learning the anatomy of plants and animals is a very important part ot' the Advanced Biology class. Students who take an ad- vanced science class will probably have jobs related lo science. Every good scientist knows that an education is the key to success. Kevin Davis looks at the wings of a honey bee through the lens of a high powered microscope. Mr. Jackson tries to explain the theory ot' evolution to his Advanced Biology students. W.- W

Social Studies Comes any orm Social Studies classes can cover almost anything that deals with people. Our elementary students learn social studies through many of the programs they perform. Some of Mr. Young's students learned through the Newspaper in the Classroom Program. Mr. Traywick's 9th grade Civics students went to the state capital while the legislature was in special session. Even some social studies lessons were learned through art as students participated in the Martin Luther King Art Contest. And good citizenship awards obviously are lessons. Mr. Young uses one of his maps while teaching his Global Studies class. Many elementary students learned the meaning of citizenship and achievement through the program started this year.
