Social tudies Social Studies, probably the broadest subject taught at F.H.S. , includes many different branches such as geogra- phy, problems of democracy, world history, American his- tory, and advanced American government. Social Studies provide students with a better understanding of the world around them , the people in that world, and their relationship to others and themselves. Learning the capital of Australia and the method of choosing the American President are just two of the almost unlimited areas of study. Geometry students were surprised that triangles could do so much, Algebra classes argued over x's and y's, and analysis students cried! Gene was especially surprised the day that, during Mrs. Baker's absence, he was suddenly whapped on the head by a flying movie screen. We learned a lot through experi- ence, too. Some students were so enthused with their new calculators that they dropped them daily for an excuse to dis- sect them and probe through their many tiny circuits. But, through it all we managed to convince Mrs. Baker to main- tain her sanity and control her frustrations . . . and anger . . . and excitement. Be careful, Donald.
