The trademark of this sea- son was the hard-hitting defense which had 4 shu- touts. Standouts included Seniors Domenic Tassielli, David Caiss, Eric Bartlett, Jeff Schertzer, and Chris Estrada. The offense was trans- formed from a ball-control style to a high-powered pass- ing attack, with junior Mike laquaniello throwing T.D. passes to many receivers, including Dan McDougall, co-captain Caiss, and Estrada. The running game was also strong with John Janowicz, co-captain Tassielli, Jim Fer- ris, and Dan Herman carrying much of the load. The offensive line that provided superb blocking throughout the year was led by Schertzer, Mark Pultorak, Pat Bruno, and Keith Moore. This year marked the 5th time in 6 years that Fordson has qualified for the State Playoffs. The Tractors beat two of the state's three best teams in the playoffs, Henry Ford, 21-12, in the Quar- terfinals, and Farmington Harrison, 9-7, in the Semi- finals. Once again the Trac- tors could not come with the coveted Class A champion- ships as they were over- powered by a tough Ann Arbor squad in the Dome. LEFT: The J.V. They went all the way into the regional playoffs before losing to Murray Wright, 78-42. Detroit Mackenzie and Southwestern were easy foes in the districts. This year's team was led by Co-captains Nancy Skubik and Lori Abbas, the latter being the league's leading scorer and the former being a strong leader who played with guts and determina- tion all season long. The other seniors who started were Sandi Abbas and Lynne Hurley, who both were consis- tent scorers and who also con- tributed many steals and passes to the Tractors' fast break. Rounding out the starters was Sophomore Mandy Chandler, who hit many key baskets, including one with two seconds left against Monroe to give the Tractors the win, and who also was a force inside getting rebounds and blocking shots. Seniors Vince Mahar, Nate Church, and Mike Vetowich all had produc- tive seasons and helped set exam- ples for the whole team. The team finished the season averaging 62.4 points per game while giv- ing up only 57.65. Despite the poor showing, many wrestlers set individual records including Junior Karl Hossein who set class records for victories and pins and Fadi Abdallah and |ihad Hossein, who both set class records for victories. The team lacked experience (all the members were underclassmen) and the quality of leadership that seniors provide, said Coach Marzalek. BABES 71 Classes Help To Inform Students ‘□WERiaTRlBUNt Whoever thinks that Journalism and Mass Media are easy classes should think again. There is a lot of work done by the students as they gain experience on a newspaper or behind a camera. The Tower Tribune's staff decreased from last year. However, Editor John Cherry, Dave Loudon, Pat Darish, Mary McComb, and Raad Alawan with Renee Tambeau helped to make the paper enjoyable. The Mass Media class also decreased in size from last year with only five members this year. Mass Media 73 Glimpses' Successful This year's fall play Glimpses” was a total success. The Drama Club's main reason for putting the play on was the popularity of last year's play Voices from the High School. Interest in drama seems to be increasing here at Fordson. More students tried out for a part in this play than for any other in the past. Quite a few freshmen had parts in the play. Over half of the cast consisted of new talent. Glimpses was a combination of many short plays or skits which depicted the problems in a teenager's life. Highlights of the play were the skits, Radio Talk and Angie's Song. Radio Talk was about a group of teens each of whom enjoyed his own type of music. They argued about which type of music was best: hard rock, punk rock, mellow rock etc. One boy was considered weird because he liked classical music. Angie's Song portrays a troubled girl who is pregnant. Later, she has a miscarriage. The skit stresses the fact that she will never be the same because of her experience. Fall Play 75 Winter Concert Displays Talents Every year Fordson's Music Department puts on its Winter Concert right before Christmas. The concert includes perfor- mances by the band, select ensemble, marching band, jazz band, jazz choir, chorus, and the pom-pon girls. As in past years, this year's performance was outstanding. Organizing all this talent were Mr. Phil Hespen, who is the band director, and Ms. Maritsa Madias, who is the vocal music director. The officers of the Student Congress were: President Todd Gonzalez, Vice- President Ray Berry, Treasurer Kim Moreno, and Secretary Maria DeGarmo. The Student Congress tried some new things this past year. They sponsored clean-up days for the school where students volunteered to clean statues, stair-wells, and paintings. They also visited other schools in the Wolverine A League and exchanged ideas. During Thanksgiving they held their annual Turkey Trot. The second period classes collected money. The classes with the most money got to chase a turkey across the football field. The money collected was used to purchase food for poor families in our area. White Christ- mas was another great success. TOP RIGHT: This hippy group celebrates the best White Christmas so far. However, according to Mr. Robert Flee, head of the Math Department, We feel inter- est is increased and believe that the results of using the computers will be positive. There are two new teachers. After all, most men and women in today's world are getting involved in engineer- ing, and what better way can students prepare themselves for their future jobs than by taking the courses that we have here at Fordson. The Department made a video tape last year of the Industrial classes to get more students involved, “Especially girls, Mr. Ochsner adds, “they are welcome. All names of said students have been included whether or not they actually appear. Because of the size of such a task, the yearbook staff realizes there might be some errors. Thank you. The 1985 Fleur de Lis is the result of the hard work of several people. First of all, the Yearbook Class, which met during the Fall Semester, was the main group involved in the production of the yearbook. These twenty-five students organized the sections, wrote the copy, did the proofreading, organized the sales program, and eventually distributed the book. Putting a 192 page book together from scratch is no simple task. The photography crew was directed by Mr. Joe Beydoun and Mr. Carl Bengtsson. Joe spent many extra hours helping the staff taking, developing, and printing the pictures that go into the book. The Fleur de Lis staff would also like to thank numerous people who submitted photographs for our use. Our cover this year was done by Jeannie Jedynak as well as the other cartoons that appear in the book. Jeannie spent many hours in creating this excellent cover, and we hope that our customers enjoy it. Appreciation is also extended to the office staff, especially to Mrs. Dorothy Failor, who aided in sales receipts. To Mrs. Lorraine Miller the staff would like to extend its thanks for her assistance in the production of the book. Finally, the members of the 1985 Fleur de Lis staff would like to thank the entire school for its cooperation. We appreciate those of you who purchased a book, and we appreciate the coopera- tion we received when our reporters and or photographers caused disruption. Finally, the staff hopes that the 1985 Fleur de Lis will serve as a delightful record of this year at Fordson.
