Music, art encourage student creativity A chance for you to become creative is available in the Art and Music Departments of Fordson High School. New to the music staff is Miss Maritsa Madias, who is advising the Vocal and Jazz Choirs. Mr. Phil Hespen has coordinated the band for over three years now. He has improved the band with such changes as new uniforms, trips to places like Disney World, and a larger, better quality band. The Music Department combined forces in December to produce the musical, “Scrooge.” If you have ever been interested in Art, there are five courses that are available. Also, throughout the year there were art shows that students entered. The classes offered are Basic Drawing and Design, Drawing I and II, Commercial Art MV. and Jewelry I and II. According to Mr. Richard Cicero, “Seniors realize too late that they enjoy art, and they wish that they had taken it earlier.” So get creative and take some music and art. ABOVE: Mr. Ronald Cyrul tries to explain a painting technique to senior Mariam Olive, but Mariam smiles for the camera. LEFT: Looks like Miss Madias has caught her fingers in the piano keys. BELOW: Mr. Richard Cicero explains art techniques while Scott Montrief is thinking about being another Michelangelo. 28 Art and Music

Languages are interesting, important Learning a different language can be fun and interesting, but most important, learning a lan- guage can help you if you’re college bound. This year there are four languages which students may elect: French, German, Spanish, and Arabic. The bilingual pro- gram is also part of the language department. Ms. Mary Stackpoole, teach- ing beginning French and Mr. Albert Harp, teaching Arabic, have been added to the depart- ment. The head of the Language Department, Mrs. Rosa Scar- amucci, believes, “Electing a foreign language is a great opportunity to get ahead in your career goal.” So take advantage of some of the languages available! TOP LEFT: Miss Virginia Larkin, one of Fordson's librarians, is concentrating on her next novel. CENTER: Miss Margot Ness is trying hard to get her point across. BOTTOM LEFT: Mr. Henry Waterkamp is determined to teach his students the Spanish word for finger. ABOVE: Mrs. Rosa Scaramucci gives her class a beautiful French smile.
