Administration ... One of the most active and influential men in the Fordson school system... is Harvey H. Lowrey...Superintendent of schools....Mr. Lowrey has been as- sociated with Fordson educational affairs since 1921...when he assumed the super intendency of the system.... In addition to his duties as superintend- ent...Mr. Lowrey also is active in civic and church affair s. ...He was an important member of the group which formed the Dearborn City Charter...has taught a Sunday School class at Mt. Olivet Methodist Church for the past twenty years...ho 1ds important offices with the Rotary Clubs............... Superintendent Lowrey...has earned three degrees...including his doctorate ...and has made himself an integral part of the Fordson school system.... The Fordson Board of Education has diverse duties...all re 1 ated...e ither directly or indirect1y...to the welfare of the school system and of the com- munity.... The Board appoints such officers as the superintendent of schools...the as- sistant superintendent...the director of the bureau of educational results and research... business manager...at torney... auditor... architect when needed ...and engineer.... 11 also is empowered to appoint officials necessary to the carrying out of various operat ions. ..as in taking the school census.... The Board of Education chooses sites for and builds necessary buildings... appoints the many teachers needed...arranges for and permits outside use of the schoolrooms, auditoriums, and gymnasiums of schools in the Fordson sys- and selects proper and appropriate textbooks....

Wartime conditions... have caused many changes...in the lives of students of Fordson High Schoo1....The outlook on life has a different spirit...the Spirit of Nineteen-Forty-Four....This spirit differs from that of other years because...whi 1e former students were interested in winning the war...we have high hopes also of helping to make a lasting peace.... Fordson High School students...have done a great deal toward winning the war...through generous pur- chases of war bonds and stamps...through enthusias- tic responses to the various local drives.... Yet...this is only the beginning.... Many of our boys will sacrifice coI Iege...jobs... even high school...for actual combat duty....Girl will sacrifice careers for service in factories... hospitals...branches of the armed forces.... The class of 19HI...hopes that after the war is won ...an International spirit of cooperation...wi11 exist throughout the world....An end must be put to possibility of future wars....We will take our places in the rehabilitation of our world...now blasted by war.... Our school is a nucleus of the spirit...we must see operative throughout the world....With this in mind ... we... members of the OHH Fleur de Lis staff... take pleasure in dedicating this annual...to Ford- son students...who have served...and who will serve their country...in war and in peace.... 1
