Melvin gets ready to snatch ball, ,X Wait till next year may very well be the Senior forward John Samansky . , answer to this years basketball squad. Al- though John Bach had several returning letter- men including Captain John Coalmon, Dee 3 Redmen can't stop Coalmo Maynard and John Samonsky, he had only to rely on the untested sophs of last season's her- alded frosh squad. The loss of Frank Cipriani to pro baseball gave the young coach one less backcourt man to work with. Bob Melvin, Bill Sheridan and Bob Lawry had to come through. And come through they did. They provided an additional spark to a take-it-easy team. Bob Melvin provided a scoring punch which made the Rams a team to be reckoned with. The elig- ibility of Sy Coalmon in January provided the men of Rose Hill with much needed height and some good outside shooting. Senior Ray Mc- Govern returned to the squad and took over as the field general of the rambunctious Rams. A leg injury to iunior Joe Dempsey did nothing to aid the team and so the team played much on inexperience and heart. But the brilliant play of sophomore Bob Melvin did much to bring great hope for the future. Melvin was also awarded the honor of being elected to the All- Metropolitan Team which numbered All-Ameri- can Tony Jackson of St. John's. The Rams opened their l96O-6l season against the Elis of Yale. Before an enthusiastic opening crowd of two thousand the men of Rose Hill trounced the Elis 7l-ol. The lead changed hands several times in the beginning of the game, but John Coalmon and Ray Mc- Govern on pairs of foul shots, put the lead per- manently into the hands of the Rams. The fine
