' zz'-f- ci-3'3vzr Dedication ln every field of endeavor there exists a mark of distinction, a material object, that which elevates the men of the profession to the pinnacle of their field. They have attained a position comparable to that of Alexander. There no longer remain for them any new worlds to conquer or barricades to hurdle. ln reality they have arrived at the site of their greatest triumph. These hon- ored few, by virtue of their laborious efforts, can look back at a very mem- orable yesterday, and forward toward a glorious tomorrow. Here within the walls of Fordham such a man is taken and distinguished by the university body with the title Bene Merentif' We have sought a man- ner in which to thank these men who have dedicated twenty years of their lives to the service of God and man at Fordham. Courageously speaking out against those who decry the educational processes, they have persevered and triumphed over man's timeless foes, intolerance and ignorance. It can truly be said that Fordham's motto, Sapientia et Doctrine has remained uppermost in the minds of these men. Having sacrificed both self advancement and worldly gain, they remain as members of a sacred circle, guiding our minds and foot- steps toward a better tomorrow. For these individuals, 'molders of men,' we signalize the honor Bene Merentif' Through this symbol we convey to them, in the deep imprint of gold, our admiration and respect. for their efforts. On this medal is inscribed the majestic laurel, the wreath of victory which borders the center figure of two courageous lions holding the urn of life over the purifying fires of knowledge. Certainly, so long as there remains in our world a sense of dedication and idealism, this flame will never grow dim, but will brightly burn for all to see in the ages to come. lt is indeed unfortunate that we cannot honor these men, dedicated toilers for the humanities, every day of their lives, for they richly deserve such recognition. As a token and outward expression of our appreciation it is to them that we dedicate this our l959 Aries. Bene Mere11ti 'als-ff-CQQW' ii 7 ,iii . l l 4' I -, 559 . ., .z .
