SWIMMING Moe Shea taking the lead. Jack Hayman away out front. And they' re off! The Mermen, in a total of eleven dual meets, never had more than seven men on hand to defend the honor of Ramland. Despite this handicap the team ended up with 'a win- ning record of 6 wins over 5 losses. The season started in early December with a 53-33 victory over Loyola of Baltimore, last year's Mid-Atlantic Conference champs. The win was offset by a final relay loss to Rutgers. Then the Fordham Fish rolled up three vic- tories over Hunter, City, and Seton l-lall. ln a trip to the Naval Academy at Annapolis, the team suffered its worst defeat, and two of the Big Three , Jack l-laymen and Caesar Cirigliano, lost their first races of the season while Drury Gallagher, Eastern Collegiate l500 Meter Champ, pushed his two year collegiate record to over 50 consecutive wins. After losses to KingsPoint, where Gallagher broke his own 440 yard freestyle record, and to Columbia, where he missed that pool record by six-tenths of a second, the team dunked Manhattan, and then Brooklyn College at the Rose I-lill pool. The season ended with a loss to perennial rival, N.Y.U., where Gallagher set two new pool records for the 440 yard and 220 yard freestyle events. , I i Do we need this win, Coach? Joe Csete-and a Fordham first. Zol

Co Captain Andy Garrity The Baseball Team has ten lettermen return- ing to action this year, and the season looks promising except for a lack of depth in the mound staff. The loss of the number l and 2 pitchers of last year's squad has thrown the heavy burden on the shoulders of Jay Bergen and Joe Mohallie. Senior George Crowley will also lend strong support. The infield has a veteran at every position. Co-Captain Tom Delaney will hold down the third base spot for his third season. John Salerno, a highly touted gloveman, will be returning at short while Danny Santini, the hard hitting lefty, will be at second base. The long ball belter, lra Sussman, will be at first for his second season also. John Bonkowski, who saw as much action as any of the other infielders last year, will be on hand to step into any of the infield slots when called on. Behind the mask, Co-Captain Andy Garrity will handle the receiving chores, backed up by John Lancelloti and Frank Belantese. ln the outfield, veterans l-lippi Korachas, and Chubby Welborn, return. Both boys are known for their big bats. Sophs Dick Pollard and Butch Keepie, will vie for the open slot. The material is here for a very strong team to have a highly successful season. Coach Dan Rinaldo will be on hand to help insure a win- ning streak. George Crowley and Jay Bergen Co-Captain Tom Delaney '-il,i'i Danr:Saritini
