' Barrett Literary Society This society, as the only literary outlet for the School of Business, en- courages not only the placing of greater emphasis on a knowledge of litera- ture, but also individual writing efforts on the part of its members and the entire student body. These undertakings were organized to aid in the develop- ment of a more rounded School of Business student. The current academic year witnessed the adoption of a new constitution for this club which prescribed formal rules of conduct and allowed the society more flexibility in its literary pursuits. ln accordance with the plans, the society, under the moderation of Dr. Joseph Moriarity, set up a diversified program for the current year. The prominent feature of this program included a talk by Mr. Frank .lay on Writing and Publishing Short Stories and a speech on Book Col- lecting by Dr. Moriarity who exhibited part of his first edition collection. In addition, the society has definite plans to attend a Broadway play, to present additional literary lectures, to record literary works of art, and to provide opportunities for group discussions.

Meeting weekly, the members of the Aquinas Society, through lecturers and group discussion, flavor their knowledge of things philosophic with a dash of things psychiatric. When toiling in the fields of business throughout the day, the evening student can find himself involved with the self-styled philosopher who, while tossing ids and egos around with reckless abandon, will champion or embrace any off-beat philosophy merely because it is The Thing. Unfortun- ately, Our l-lero's refutation is usually an all-knowing, rapid-fire Oh, yeah! Considering this problem of everyday living, the Aquinas Society takes a look at modern philosophers and philosophies in the light of Catholic doctrine and, thus, equips 'its members with useful, factual information, With Dr. Gilligan offering guidance and direction, and under the leader- ship of President Pete'Daniels, the discussions are channeled along a lively Peter Daniels , President But l still clonl't agree. path which fosters a desire for further knowledge and investigation of various philosophic beliefs. Freshman Orientation William R. Barrs This year's orientation program was officially opened on Campus on September IO by Christ Drakopoulos, who wel-' comed all incoming freshmen on behalf of the entire student body. Following this series of speeches each student was di- rected to report to his respective division to attend a series of orientation lectures and conferences which were designed to familiarize the new student with the academic and extra cur- ricular facilities open to him. Directing the entire program was Professor Romano, of the marketing department, who had as his assistants various student leaders of both divisions.
