TONY BALSAMO, RON RIDDLE, GERRY MURO. U 1 Fordham Universitysbaseball team of 1957! highly loaded with talent and. competitive spirit, closed ,out the season with a winning 12-5 record. The Ram nine were victorious in their first eight games and shiningoutin the headlinles was the sensational victory over Manhattan. 'The ajaspersi' were undefeated prior to this 'meeting which attracted so much enthusiasm among players and students alike. Everyone was hoping in the continued success and a bid to the NCAA tournament. However a defeat by St.. Iohnis put a damper on the Rams chances for the NCAA berth, something which Fordham has narrowly missed in the pastyfew seasons. However the seasonwas a, success and with the coming of the 1958 season, bigger and better things ,could happen. Greatly responsible for the winning record of last year's team were the highly utilized Tony Balsamo who had four victories on the mound, filled in in the outfield, and was also on hand to produce some of the Well needed hits throughout the season. Gerry Muro, co-captain along with Balsamo for the 1958 season, led the team with a .342 batting average. Another promising representative of Dealy Hall ,is Ronnie Biddle who can be expected to add depth to the pitching staff. A A talented group of underclassmen are expected to develop and round out the 1958 team with the promise -of an interesting campaign ahead. Jack Coffee is enjoying good health and will beon hand to mold and guide the team on to another season which we can look forward to with optimism should the same com- petitive spirit prevail as it - CO-CAPTAIN BALSAMO . A - 190 in the past. CO-CAPTAIN MURO
