C SS CCD TRY o Front Row: Don Luisi, Artie Cunningham, Tom Kearns, John Hand. Back Row: Wally Cooper, Pete Swiers, , ' John O'Brady, Tom Brennan. .. , Led by Captain A. Cunningham, the cross-country team enjoyed its greatest season, since the sport's innovation at 'Rose Hill. The team amassed a record of seven wins against three losses, in addition to winning the Met A.A.U. junior X-Country title, taking second place in the Met A.A.U. Senior X-Country run, third in the Met Intercollegiate meet and seventh in the IC4's. Beside Cunning- ham, those fashioning this formidable record were Tom VVard, Wally Cooper, Tom Kearns, Ed Larkin, J. C. 'MacNeil and Don Luisi, freshman IC4A record holder. . The first two meets saw the Maroon shutout Rhode Island and Seton Hall as Fordham 'copped the first Eve places in both meets. St. john's, undefeated in dual meet competition all season, handed the harriersd their first defeat by the score of 22-36. The only consola- tion was the fact that Don Luisi ran his unbeaten skein to fourteen straight victories. ' ' Fordham rebounded to defeat Manhattan and Connecticut in a triangular meet. Luisi and Cunningham tried for first 'place as Fordham defeated the Jaspers' for the Hrst time since 1952. In another triangular meet, the Rams lost to St. Ioe's of Philadelphia and' vanquished Princeton. . In -subsequent meets, Fordham outlasted Yale and Iona, but fell before the Orange of Syracuse, 24-31, ' The Rams had the tables turned on them in the Metropolitan In-tercollegiate meet in finishing third behind St. .I.ohn's and Man- hattan. lCunningham lowered his five mile school record to 25:09 as he was runner-up in this meet for the second year in a row. The IC4A meet saw Don Luisi capture fourth place and shatter Cunninghanfs record by some twenty-three seconds, his time being 24:46. The Maroon stood seventh in the over-all team score. It was the best team effort Fordham enjoyed, since its entrance into IC4A competition. ' Closing out the season, the Rose Hillers won the Iunior Met A.A.U. diadem and were runner-ups to the N.Y.A.C .national championship team in the Senior A.A.U. meet.
