ORDHAM UNIVERSITYNmY0fUBf'ff The Presidenfs Room TO THE GRADUATES OF 1958 Heartiest congratulations to each one of you! We hope that . the four years, or more or less, which you have had in Fordham have been pleasant and productive. We have worked hard - 'and worked you hard - to make sure that you would acquire the skills requisite for the future welfare of yourselves and those you love. Looking back on your undergraduate days, you now realize that your intellectual curiosity has grown. We like to think that you have developed better study habits. We are reasonably certain that you view things now with a more tolerant outlook and are more inclined to approach a problem in a more deliberate way than you once did, that you have learned to weigh the various factors in a situation before giving your opinion or decision. We hope, too, that you have attained, in some degree, articulate expression and that you will not be constrained to silence when the evil or the false threatens your fellowman. A The highest ideas of a modern business man is to serve men. If you can have that ideal as your dominant motive as you leave this business school, we will be convinced that all our patient efforts with accounting, marketing, and business management will have been well worthwhile. ' In a sense you are not leaving Fordham. You cannot leave yourself and in so many ways Fordham is part of you: friends made in remembered hours these past years, principles etched deeply by the clash of mind on mind, values cherished in the slow revealing of a maturer vision. You have simply become part of that larger Fordham in the bustling city of men for which this academic citadel, has helped prepare you. Come back to us often and tell us how you fare, come back and join with us in heart and. hand to make your H University ever better, come back simply because this will always be your Fordham. Just for a while, then, goodbye- good luck - God bless you all. . 7 f Laurence J. McGinley, SJ. VERY REVEREND LAURENCE J. MCGINLEY, S.J. RECTOR AND PRESIDENT 11
