Xl W X 5. S D HIP' CO TROL Ship's control department is comprised of the Boat- swains Mates, Radiomen, Signalmen, Quartermas- ters, And the Deck Seamen. This department has the distinction of standing the most prestigious watch on board USS FORD, the life-bouy watch, otherwise known as the Aft Lookout. Each and every man on board FORD can feel safe knowing that if he falls overboard, the life-bouy watch is on station. The Quartermasters ensure we know where Ford is at all times, or where FORD should not or does not want to be due to numerous navigational hazards. The Ra- diomen keep communications flowing and have the lucky role of waking up those officers in the middle of the night so that they can initial those immediate action messages. The Signalmen are FORD's backup communicators when those other ships are unable to talk to FORD because their radios are not Working. Just recently, this gave them the opportunity to practice receiving immediate execute tactical signals via flashing light, most likely the last time such an opportunity will present itself.
