Every student was astounded and teachers were too. For up from the grade schools as freshmen we came. So nervous were we, none remembered our names. Then time came for sports and we lost all our fears. We were all good sportsmen, in spite of our years. Our very first play was called Magnolia Blooms , And it was so good it even filled both rooms. Then around came the month of May, And even to this very day We remember the fear. That we had that year. Then in 52 the walls looked new. And with this came four teachers too. There were more out for sports in this year. For you see, we had lost all our freshmen fear. We then produced a play with all its thrills. The name of it you know, It’s Cold in them Thar Hills . Then came our report cards, we were happy to see And in spite of our actions, we were juniors to be. We dashed out the doors with hotdogs and buns. And to Allen’s Valley for a great day of fun. As the day was ending and night growing near. All the kids yelled to others, see you next year . Back to the grind in September we came. Hoping to find the school house aflame. We saw Mrs. Allison, our former Miss Seese, You see, she had gotten herself a new lease. This year, Mr. Allison, a new teacher, you may have guessed. Got into the swing with all the rest. The country side thought v e were a bunch of simples. Till we produced a smash hit named Dimples . Then our bank account of course became thinner. After v e took those seniors to dinner. Mr. Allison said, A surprise this day brings . Then in walked Mr. Robs with our rings. We then passed all our tests And went to the valley with all the rest. We started as seniors full of pep and with no fear. We had two new teachers to keep us straight this year. There were seven boys in our class on the team this season. And for the soccer championship they had a reason. That fall we did nothing but cut classes To put on our play called Sulphur and Molasses . We were busy this year building stage, year book and bank account. And then in the spring we had a terrific amount. We needed all this for a wonderful class trip. And none of us, they found, did make one slip. Time came for graduation snd for sometime we were to grieve. But when the time came, it was real hard to leave. And so we leave with these thoughts in our minds. Though we hate to admit it, our school has been kind. 4 Class Motto In Ourselves Our Future Lies Class Song I Believe “I’ll study and get ready and then maybe the chance will come.” —Abraham Lincoln Class Flower White Carnation Class Colors Blue and White ClaMprcphecif July 19, 1964 Anchorage, Alaska Dear Mr, Schuler, Since the last time we exchanged letters, we have traveled throughout the world in an effort to find the remainder of our class of 54 , Here in Alaska is WARREN BROWN, who has been our partner since graduation, prospecting for uranium. After traveling on the Elkin Highway for a long distance, we came into Niagara Falls and much to cur surprise met MARY FRANCES and CLARK, having long since been married and were on their second honeymoon. We finally arrived in New York where we stopped at the Rltz for lunch and who served us but HELEN MILLS. She told us that CAROL ALLOWAY was teaching in the Rochester High School. During our visit with Carol in Rochester, she mentioned seeing EARL CUTCHALL, Vice President of the Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. On leaving New York we decided to stop at Coney Island and who was the star trapese artist but RUTH FETTERS, better known as Mrs. Bob Richards. We talked for awhile, then headed for Indianapolis, Indiana, where KIT (Hot-Rod) HUSTON was racing his newest car. We hope he holds it on the road. We took a plane from Indianapolis for Texas where we wit- nessed the 1964 rodeo, which featured cowgirl singers, BEVERLY SOUDERS and EVELYN FIX. We talked about old times then started east for Mississippi. Stationed at the Air Force Base was GEORGE BISHOP doing K.P. for sleeping on guard duty. We then took a train to Fort Knox, Kentucky, where we found NEIL BERKSTRESSER now a Lieutenant in the army. Neil told us he visited WALTER LAKE at Michigan, where he is an engineer. After leaving Kentucky, we flew into Cleveland, Ohio, where HELEN STEVENS was much endured as head nurse in the hospital. On leaving we took the turnpike Into Pittsburg and at the University we saw DICK DECKER as a professor in Mathematics. Also attending the school was BILL ZILCH just discharged from the navy, and specializing in Math. After a little visit we went to one of the largest manufacturing companies and saw EVELYN FOSTER working as a secretary for the President of this concern. While traveling through the city we saw FRANCES MELLOTT doing her wash and hang- ing up a lot of diapers. On leaving Pittsburg, on route 30, we came into Bedford and found RAY HAWKINS and his wife. Ray is working hard as a veteri- narian in that district. Ray told us HELEN HESS was a telephone operator on the Bedford exchange. We visited her and asked about HELEN RUNK. Well, she never got into nurse's training. We arrived in Hustontown the next day, and at a lovely little house we found EDITH KNEPPER, now a Foreman, with her 15 children. .We drove down to SHIRLEY MARTZ'S, who had finished college and was getting ready to sail for Venezula. She told us that BETTY MTJMMA was living in Washington with her husband. We decided to drive to McConnellsburg for supper and here we found BERNICE SHEFFIELD, married and very happy. Coming from McConnellsburg we saw HAZEL MELLOTT driving a lumber truck for Bard Inc. We rode still further to locate the rest of our class. We were just lucky to find Pfc. ALLEN MELIUS and Pfc. PAUL JOHNSON home for a few days. They said that they heard MARIAN SHEFFIELD was living in Mercersburg with her husband. On visiting the grade school at Hustontown, a cute little red-headed girl answering to the name of Cindy Thomas, said her mother (NANCY MELLOTT) and daddy were living happily in Wells Tannery. It was growing late, so we got on an airplane at the Huston- town airport and returned to Alaska to join Warren Brown. Hope we can see you on our next trip. In many of the games Just one more bucket would have tipped the score in favor of H. H. S. One thing which greatly handicapped our basketha11 team is the fact that there are no facilities for practice or for games. Everyone knows that a team plays better on its home floor, hut these fellows have none. Under the Coaching of Hr. Blaine they hope that next year will he better.
