Soph completed their season with an impressing 12-2 in SYL, and 19-2 overall. I think having mostly sophomores was an advantage against oth- er teams, said coach Bobby Sharp. Most valuable player went to Rico Robertson. Most Improved went to Stacey Hodges. Best Offensive went to Caroll Hill and Bryan Pratt. Best Defensive went to Robert Roberson. Most inspirational went to Erwin Clamente. The Frosh!Soph girls took third in SYL with a 13-5 record. We have several good ball handlers and athletes who hustle as hard as they can all the time, said coach Cheryl Alexander. We play as a team. When one person played well, it inspired the rest of the team, said sophomore Lisa Lee. Most Valuable Player went to Trina Tenison. Most Improved went to Mariann Martinez and Most Inspirational went to Lotisha Thompson.

LHDV TROJHNS drive to SVL :tl Foothill's Lady Trojan basketball team finished number one in the South Yosemite League QSYLJ, with a record of 13-1 , for the first time in its 12-year history. The team made it to Valley semifinals before being disqualified by Mt. Whit- ney 152-5Ol, ending their overall record at 18-6. Key SYL wins for the girls were over North Q52-421, South Q50-41l, and Bakersfield l63-523 high schools. We beat South for our league opener, said coach Connie Minear. t'They were highly rated and a loss would have changed the team's outlook for the season. However, the win gave us confidence and set our sails towards suc- cess. Other highlights were against North and BHS at BC. We beat North High at home C72-70l and at North 152- 423 for the first time in school history, commented Minear. The finale battle was beating BHS at BC in a 20-point dom- inating team effort to get revenge for the one-point loss ear- lier in the season. Outstanding players were seniors Caryn Claiborne, centerg Cynthia Simington, power forward, Leah Brownlee, forward: junior guard Lorraine Spencer, and sophomore guards Stephanie Childs and Kara Schuetz. The awards had a place for everyone on the team. Nikki Grant received Most Hustle award, Audrey Mitchell, Eager Beaver award, Jannette Garza, Most lnspirationalg Caryn Claiborne, Captain and Best Big Man. Cynthia Simington was selected Most Valuable Player, All-League and All-Area. Tammy Bailey was Best Returning Big Man, Leah Brownlee was Captain and Most Improved, Kara Schuetz was Most Dedicated Nonstarterg Stephanie Childs was Rookie of the Year, And Lorraine Spencer was Best Defense.
