as J' JV Titons 17-O shutout cops seoson The Junior Varsity Titans ended their season 5-4-1. The Titans were undefeated in pre-season and were 3-4 in SYL after losing the first two games to Arvin and North. Coaches Julio Mercado and John Minear felt they needed wins in these games to establish themselves as contenders for the league championship. The Titans end- ed their season with a 17-0 shutout against Highland. The coaches felt they had a good turnout for Junior Varsity football and a lot of talent, but never really got it together and played as a unit. Outstanding players, ac- cording to the coaches, were: Jose Mata, Carroll Hill, Alex Haulman, Mark Tinoco, Brian Pratt, Ronnie Taylor and Jon Baker. Team awards went to Jose Mata for Most Outstand- ing, J.W. Colvillo, Dovis Nomed Qutstonding Foshlsoph football had an impressive attitude with good team morale, according to coach Kevin Harriger. With a record of 4 wins and 6 losses, Harriger felt that Foothill discovered some successful, new talent. Out- standing players were all freshmen, with the exception of sophomore Robert Calvillo, who received the award for Best Defense. The rest of the awards go to Konala Davis, Most Valuable, as a fullback and linebacker. Jason Varrey re- ceived Most Outstanding Offense and William Dufford was Most Improved Player. The team's strengths were its consistent balance and ability to run and throw the ball on offense. Despite the lack of speed, according to coach Harriger, the team made up for it by its teamwork on offense. Frosh!Soph Football 99
