acl X i I Madeline Campa and Antoinette Camberlango believe that there is more to music than theory. They partic- gww- ..e. F ularly enjoy their classes in appreciation. One of their favorite selections is Tschaikowsky's Nut- --.-' craker Suite with which they are entertaining their classmates. MU IC Fontbonne's music course is taken in Freshman and Sophomore years. It is divided into two categories: theory and appreciation. In theory classes, the student must learn the fundamentals of music: scales, key signatures, chords, and trans- position. She achieves a minor success in music when she discovers that she can transpose My Country 'Tis of Thee from C major to G minor with a minimum of difficulty. In music appreciation classes, she listens to such favorites as Tchaikovsky's Nut- cracker Suitef' and Stravinsky's Firebird Suite. She learns the names, plots and composers of all the great operas. For those who have more than a pass- ing love of music, Fontbonne offers piano, violin, and voice lessons. The entire course is designed to increase cultural inte1'ests. Music's G major scale provides a lively discusion as Rosalie Marlo- rano explains the complexities of the half steps between B and C. Fourth term members of the Choral class prove to be in good voice as they practice their music for commencement.

'I i f I The joy of helping the deaf is reflected in the faces of Geraldine Eberle, Mary Giani, Adrienne Scordley, Grace Per.la, Frances Furfaro, and Jeanette Inferrara of the Hobby Club as they fashion leather rosary cases and weave woolen rugs. Junior officers of the Holy Rosary Praesidium assist President Mar- garet Smith in preparing Mary's altar. Muriel Boyle is president of Im- maculate Heart of Mary Prae- sidium. The backbone of Legionary ex- perience lies in the study of the handb0ok, reads Margaret Meehan to Legionaries Phyllis Capozzi and Jeanette Zammatara. The Legion of Mary is a worldwide organization whose members weekly perform apostolic works, offering them to Jesus through Mary. In Fontbonne we are blessed in having three praesidia which honor our Heavenly Queen. Striving to be Mary-like in thought, word, and deed, their members serve those less fortunate at St. Charles Hospital, Anthonian Hall, and Angel Guardian Home. The Saint Francis de Sales Hobby Club is a comparatively new organization. It began as an auxiliary group to those working in religious vaca- tion schools, especially in those schools devoted to the care of the deaf. lt aims at developing skill in handicrafts.
