HI TORY To be a good citizen, the student has to under- stand the historical background of our great American nation. F'ontbonne's history course reveals to her the origin and functions of government, and the elements of our economic system in first year social studies. Sophomore year finds her comparing our American heritage with the histories of European nations, dating from Hammurabi on through Napoleon. In the last two years, she con- centrates solely on American history. Imbued with the knowledge of our American democracy, its acquisitions, protection, and growth, she gains an appreciation of our way of life which will help her to become a better citizen. Worldwide political changes occur- ring in thc last decade are noted by Marie McGrath, Patricia Clare, Margaret Meehan, Patricia Perotta, and Barbara Murphy. Glancing out at nearby historic Fort Lafayette, Elizabeth Rose, Lucille Spinelli, Patricia Posta, and Carol Delma recall the spirit and deeds of the American Revolution. A Freshman classroom is the scene of a debate on the European Defense Plan in which Arlene Hayden and Marie Davids parti- cipate. ft v. s.. Eagerly anticipating future victory and the final possession of the American Legion History trophy are sixth termers Ann Palumbo, Nancy Blurnane, Grace Perla, Frances Furfaro, Elizabeth Dunn, Carol Gull, and Elizabeth Minu- taglio.
