Class H lstory In September 1950 a group of brlght young students boarded the Graduatlon Streamlmer on a trlp through the U S Conductor Mr Anthony Blankers sang out Get on board llttle chlldren there s room for many more and up Jumped janlce McCartney anet Hanson Evelyn Bakerlnk Patrlcla Cummins Mardelle Krlens Georgla Knorr Opal Baldy Ralph Gruber Randall Frxtz Leo Armstrong Larry Rlce Paul Peterson Fr1tz Langguth Dean Purdy Bob Ba1ley Dav1d Darlmg and Eugene Berry A group of out of towners jomed them They were Ruby Moats Ed1th McDowall Loretta Carns Leland Zlmmerlme and Andy Jensen Mr P P Sulhvan engmeer greeted us and took our t1ckets We soon became acquamted wlth the rest of the crew They were Mr Bruce Eshelman Mr Donald Frldley Mr Gene Hertz Mrs Lorralne Homan and Mlss Carol We1r The flrst stop was ln one of our nelghbormg states where Eugene Berry and Larry Rice were too late to catch the tram Mr Frldley dldn t belleve ln the saylng Go west young man go west so he turned around and started back east As we started rollxng agam we dlscovered two stowaways Mr Douglas Dunlap and Mr Don Hayden whom we kept for our fI11SSl!1g crew members At our second stop ln Colorado we left Paul Peterson and Dean Purdy at an A1r Force base and picked up Marlene Freund MISS Welr was called back to Nebraska for a very lmportant date and Mrs Homan decxded to go back to Iowa We just happened to find Mr Ralph Wollenhaupt and Miss Darlene Shade bummlng around so we asked them aboard We discovered after we had started up again we had lost two more passengers namely Loretta Carns and Davmd Darlmg All out m Utah crled the conductor and Opal Baldy bld us all farewell There was one new passenger we plcked up Norma Madison from some unknown town Thls was the flrst state all the passengers made through without havlng to leave one behind But we had one member change her name from Evelyn Bakerlnk to Mrs Earl Lydon We rolled on through Nevada and reached Callfornla a few days later In Callforma we pzcked up Dorls Shlllmg and Fern jessen One car broke loose from the others and we lost several crew members Mr Rlchard Manson relieved Mr Hertz as englneer and Mr Howard justice and 4Mr E B Emmons came on to relieve Mr Dunlap and Mr Wollenhaupt ln the mall male car whlle Mrs Mildred Waymlre came ln to take over the baggage car Mr Hayden left control of the whistle muslc department to Mlss Betty Hubbard One more glrl changed her name from Edlth McDowall to Mrs Marvm Warner We lost Fern jessen just as we were halfway to the coast As soon as we make lt to the coast we w1l1 get sealed orders to future destlnatlons known only to the GREAT MASTER DISPATCHER . ll - , 'J , . , . .
