FOHI I3 San Bernardino Fohi returned to the C.B.L. after a year in the Ivy- League by opening against the Car- dinals of San Bernardino. The Cardinals pro- ceeded to spoil the Steeler's debut with a 25-13 win. Fohi jumped to an early 7-O lead as Jerry Peterson rambled 37 yds. for the opening touchdown. The Steeler's second score came on a 45 yd. TD pass from Jerry Shearer to Rich House- holder. The score then stood 13-7 Fohi. The Cardinals then staged a second half rally that saw them score i8 pts., while holding Fontana scoreless. Leading the Steeler's offensive effort was Peterson, Householder, Bill Pell, and Rudy Aldama. The defensive team was led by Rich Downing, Shearer, Joe Waleszonia, Byron Bean, and Leo Jones. Bill Pell f25l to victory. for Fohi as he sparks the Steelers onward Jerry Peterson is F0lll 25 P6 6 Fontana's top 22 literally hoarded the of- fensive spotlight and pounded Pomona Catholic into a 25-6 defeat. Fontana's ball control and its l00fXs team effort was the key to vic- tory. Joe Waleszonia scored both of Fohi's first half TD's on passes from Jerry Shearer. Halfback Bill Pell added the final two touchdowns on fourth quarter romps of ll and 4 yds. Alto- gether Pell accumulated lOO yds. rushing. The Steeler secondary composed of Shearer, Waleszonia, Pell, and Dennis Barnett con- tained the Spartan pass catchers as they were unable to complete a pass. Pell led this group of defensive backs with two key interceptions. For the 9 returning lettermen on this years squad, this was a game of revenge. Joe Waleszonia 1161 closes in on Tiger back as Mel White 1551 pursues. 0lll 25 Chaffey ZI Junior John Duby 1261, starting his first varsity game, shows great desire in bringing down Chaffey back. Rich Downing 1741 and Mel White 1551 are the other pictured Steelers. Fontana's determined Top 22 grabbed a 25-21 chiller from Chaffey. The Steelers of 1963 were able to break the 10-year Chaffey Jinx and the Steelmen of 1965 continued the upcoming tradition. QB Jerry Shearer sparked Fohi's victory as he passed for three touchdowns and ran for the fourth Fontana six-pointer. The Steelers overcame an early 7-0 deficit as Shearer romped 15 yards for Fohi's first TD . Fontana's second touchdown came. . . Rich Householder 1811 eludes Chaffey tackler for long gain. . . . . . . . on a 5-yard pass, Shearer to Householder. This gave Fohi a 12-7 halftime lead. Bill Pell scored Fohi's third TD on a 21-yard aerial from Shearer. Householder climaxed the scoring on a 10-yard pass reception. Jerry Peterson added the only point after touchdown. Steeler standouts on defense were Joe Waleszonia, Ernie Cathcart, and Bob lrwin. Fohi's offensive line deserves credit for their fine per- formance. The line consists of Rich Downing, Cath- cart, Mitchell, Dennis Ferro, and Glen Cochrane.
