Time Marches On . . . i As Commencement activities and the end of our days at F. H. S. draw near, let us turn back the hands of time and recall some of the highlights of the days spent here. lt seems only yesterday that we entered the doors of Follansbee High School for the first time. Although we were only Junior High School students we soon learned that the studies and activities required more effort than they had in grade scho'ol. Y In Grade eioht we were honored to have Shirle Everson and Norean Y ' U o l Y Y i Wright as the Golden Horseshoe contest winners. Selected as Outstanding eighth graders were Tom Care and Joanne Thornburg. As we entered our Freshman year we began to take a greater part in the activities of the high school. W'e were joined by a group of Students from Col- liers, which enlarged our Freshman class. The Freshman basketball team was undefeated, and took the Brooke County championship in the Freshman team category. Students from Edgewood and Saint Anthony's joined us in our Sophomore year. Mary Ciccarelli and Ruth Nell Hooper were voted the most popular Soph- omores. Adam Petrulovich, John Zak, and Ruth Varner were chosen to lead us in our Junior year. We especially remember our first big production, our Junior play, '6Men Are Like Streetcarsfi The Halloweien Carnival was a great success, and from it we gained the necessary finances for the biggest event of the year, the Junior-Senior prom. We honored the class of ,51 with a dance at tllQ' Ogle- bay Park Pine Room. Because of their participation in schoczl affairs, Eddie Davis, Joe Puzsar, Donald Vejvoda, James Mirasola, Anna Ferrante., Juanita Jcrhnston, Ella Mac Simmons, Shirley Mayernick, and Jane lVlcDarmont were chosen to attend B0y's and Girlis State. At last the time had come, our underclass days were Over! We were Seniors. Vie chose John Zak, Dominic Pellicciotti, and Joanne Thornburg to pilot us, We remember fondly the great success of of our Senior play, 'hlune Wedding. Harry Ciccarelli and Denny Willianis captained our football team which once again defeated Weirton and Wfellsburg and lost the O.V.A.C. championship by cfnly one-half point. Our team was rated third in the state and Denny Williams was chosen for all-state honors. Juanita Johnston reigned as the first Homecoming Queen of Follansbee High School, and acting as her attendants were Joanne Slanchik, Joanne Thorn- burg, Ruth Nell Hocfper and Ruth Varner. A new scoreboard was presented to the high school by the Booster's Club. John Zak led the basketball team. The Senior Class of '52 enjoyed the first all night prom in the history of F. H. S. Fofr individual honors, Joanne Thornburg, an active member of our class, performed for nine years as a majorette in the F. H. S. band. As we leave Follansbee High School for the last time as students, we will carry vivid memories of our life here. The dances after the games, the Inter- Club proms, the pep assemblies and the club activities will remain forever in our minds. Nor shall we forget the many teachers who have helped us through the years to' prepare for the life ahead of us. To them and to all who have made our school life complete, we wish to express our deepest appreciation. Page 25
