FOARD HIGH SCHOOL The 1964 Quatra Log Published by the Senior Class of Fred T. Foard High School Rural Route 1 Newton, North Carolina Volume XI Co-Editors Dale Raney Advisors Mrs. Alice R. Wise Mr. O. N. Lynn 3 Business Managers Brenda Sigmon Linda Whitener Foreword As time passes, each day becomes history. History that can not be altered or changed in any way; it can only be remembered. In the 1964 QUATRA LOG we are att e m pti ng to picture, briefly, the events, in the lives of the students of FredT. Foard High School during the school year of 1963-1964, that will go to make up history. We hope that through the years this chronicle will bring much nostalgic memory of a great year in our lives. Though the mills of learning grind slowly, their product is never small. 4 Not only is Mr. Isenhour a de- voted teacher, but also he is a devoted husband and father. We feel that this picture of Mr. Isenhour at home with his wife Kathleen and his son Eric best illustrates why we place him in such high regard. With gratitude, respect, and esteem, we proudly dedicate our 1964 QUATRA LOG to a truly excellent and impressive educator, Mr. Larry A. Isenhour. Through untiring efforts and much friendly advice, he has encouraged and as- sisted many students seeking a business educa- tion; and, it has been because of his devotion and belief in his students that many of them have suc- ceeded. In his classroom, as well as outside of it, Mr. Isenhour is an advisor and friend. He has a personality which combines humor and sincerity into different degrees depending upon the serious- ness of the situation. With this note of appreciation we honor you, Mr. Isenhour, with this dedication. 7 Respectfully ( We Present 8 School Secretary Miss Margaret Whisnant Principal Mr. Lynn and Margaret work together for a better Foard. Fierce As A Tiger An effigy of Chuck was found hanging on the flagpole before Foard's big game with St. Stephens. But the Indians couldn't bring their prediction off and the Tigers trounced them. The Tigers watch and wait during a fime-out on the field. Exhausted but happy after a beau- tiful touchdown run. Chuck walks toward the bench with Coach Copas. David Wilson rushes to stop an oppos- ing player. Moves like that won David a berth on the 1963- 64 ALL- CONFER- ENCE TEAM. Foard fans can always be depended upon to boost team spirit. Girls’ Softball This year marked the second year that softball has been played at Fred T. Foard, as a com- petitive sport. Although Coach Isenhour finds it hard to get games with other schools, the games that the girls do have are very interesting to watch. The 1963 season was a fair one for the girls, who improved with every game. The 1963 team was made up of Marilyn Propst, short stop and pitcher; Vivian Wallace, first base; Mickie Johnson, short stop; Libby Detter, third base; Joyce Leatherman, left field; Jane Abernathy, center field; Callie Lutz, second base; Diane Huffman, catcher; Barbara Auton and Cindy Huss, pitchers. High-point man Brentley Rudisill has been stripping the nets for the Tigers. Roger Teague, with his superb ball handling and cool head for play, has proved invaluable to the success of the team. Although the competition has been stiff, Brentley, Roger and the rest of the team, Doug Connell, Larry Falls, and Kermit Whisnant, have proved again and again that Coach George Reynolds' Fred T. Foard Tigers are the team to beat. Boys’ Coach: George Reynolds and Manager: Johnny Kistler. Basketball Craig, Scott Whisnant. KNEELING: Mr. George Reynolds, Coach; Johnny Kistler, Manager. Guard: Roger Teague Guard: Doug Connell Center: Brentley Rudisill The TIGERETTES began the 1964 season with a bang! Led by the sharp shooting of Vivian Wallace and Marilyn Propst, one of the very few Rovers in the conference who can hit long shots from anywhere on the half- court, the girls rolled over their first few opponents. From the looks of things this season will truly be a great one for the Fred T. Foard TIGER- ETTES. Phone 327-9151 Shock, hurt, anger, or grief--none of these can express the pain felt in the hearts of Americans on November 22, 1963, when the horrible news of the assassination of President John Fitzgerald Kennedy spread across the nation. The American people shed tears with the Kennedy family who led the nation with courage in a time of deep sorrow. In time tears will be dried, grief will be softened, and an assassination will become history. All of the monuments built in honor of President Kennedy represent his greatness; all of the books written about him and those that will be written prove his leadership, but only the American flag at half-mast can be a symbol of what President Kennedy lived for, fought for, and died for. 144 51 Mz Swp.'
