The seniors went to the Mint Museum in Charlotte to see the Japanese m u rde r mystery, Rashomon. The Beta Club members with averages of 90 or above were installed before the student assembly. Members of the Latin Club attended services at Belmont Abbey. All Latin students and guests enjoyed the annual Roman banquet in typical Roman style. 8 9 We Dedicate ‘do PIONEERS OF PROGRESS In the beginning, man shivered in the rain, the sleet, the storm. He ran fearlully from the beasts. He ate berries and insects to eke out a bare survival. But slowly, gradually, man built civilization. He made progress because he had what no other living creature has--the urge to improve himself, to improve his lot--the urge to make progress. But this urge frequently was stifled. Kings, pharoahs, caesars, dictators commanded, Stay as you are! And when the freedom to make progress was removed, progress halted. Yet, time after time, man's God-granted urge to make progress broke through restraints. Man struggled to win more and more freedom. Finally, in America, men fought to win greater freedom than man had ever known. And they used their freedom to make greater progress than man has ever known. This is the history of man's everlasting struggle for freedom--the story of countless pioneers of progress. Quoted 10 MR. O. N.
