Chapter I Beginning of m Adventure August 28 I only arrived in Flushing today and I have met lots of people al- ready. This morning while our furniture was being moved into our new house, the boy next door came over and offered to help. His name was Tryall, or something like that. Mother sent him and me out on the porch with cookies and lemonade-after he knocked over our best lamp. I don't think Mom likes him too well. Well anyway, he was telling me about Flushing High School. He sounds terribly worried about returning. I wonder why. It sounds SUPER, simply SUPER. I was silly to feel so bad about moving to a new school in my senior year-missing the special things and all. It sounds like Flushing has quite as many exciting things as Rockylawn High has . Our neighbors here are wonderful fexcept for that horrible Tryallil Tomorrow I'll go to school to enroll and buy my new books. P.S. How do you get lemonade stains out of a perfectly adorable cotton skirt. August 29 . If only these next five days would disappear and school could start right out. After today I can hardly wait. I made out my schedule with Mr. Long first. He told me a little about Flushing while I was there. He also introduced me to some teachers that were going by. I was lucky enough to get pictures of all these people. The Flushing Observer introduced all the new and old teachers in the paper, along with Mr. Long, Mr. Crouse Qwho is the superintendent-I haven't seen him yetj and the school board. I will paste them on my next few pages . I Q, Wil a x .X-.1 ,ix Y Q vhofaf

Superintendent Mr. Marion Crouse The superintendent of the Flushing Community Schools is Marion D. Crouse. Mr. Crouse has headed our schools for fourteen years-coming here in 1946 from Richmond, Michigan, He has his A. B. and M. A. degrees from Central Michigan College. All of us have a great deal of respect for him for he is fair in his treatment of us and in his delegation of responsibilities to us. Last September Mr. Crouse transferred his office from the main lobby of the high school, where it has been located for the past thirteen years to the main lobby of the Central Elementary. He has spent endless, tireless hours on the plans for the new building soon to be erected for the senior high school. 8
