Are they running to the lunchroom?l' Harold speculated. Oh, no! They are the court scribes hastening to meet the next deadline. From this distance I can't ascertain whether they are from the Forum, Folio, or Gargoyle, but in any case, they are responsible for spreading news and literary entertainment throughout the Kingdom. Ugh, what drudgeryl I'll wager they're dreadfully bored. Whoever coerced them to take such a job? It's not drudgery at all, Harold. The serfs who yearn to develop their talents in creative writing get more than ample opportunity by working for these three publica- tions. They get great satisfaction from seeing their 'masterpieces' in print, and are spurred on to even greater efforts. I thought you'd surely have noticed them before, for the authors of the books you're always reading may have begun their literary careers in much the same fashion. Why don,t you get the feathers out of your eyes and look around once in a While? You were chiding me before for being unobservant, but now you're equally guilty. At times you spout like a leviathan about how times have changed, but on other occasions you're ridiculously old-fashioned. Sometimes I really think you belong in mothballs, Haroldf, Zounds, that's enough! spluttered Harold. - 'Tm not through humiliating you yet, Harold, answered Bertram coolly but resolutely. You've missed more than you realize simply because you couldn't take your talons off a book!
