WWW BOYS' HEALTH ED. DEPT.-L. to R..' Mr. Mullin, Scaling gymnastic heights Clmirman: Mr. Montalbano, Mr. Di Chiari, Mr. Jensen, Mr. Levitz, Mr. Berg, Mr. Larsen, Mr. Harras C-radzooks! You certainly are unobservant, Bertram. How could you believe they had forgotten about health education? Every serf is required to take an active part in the Kingdoms program to develop the subjects in body as well as in mind. This curriculum includes basketball, volleyball, and other games and varied gymnastic skills. The most proficient and outstanding athletes and leaders are awarded with medals for their deeds. And we can't overlook the fact that the maidens of the court also take part in the physical education programs. They have even exhibited their talents in public performances of contemporary dancing. Damsels trained as athletes? Phooey! exclaimed Bertram derisively. This is all part of the modern educational program. Every serf is educated so that he or she will develop both wisdom and fortitude. I get exhausted just thinking of all the work each serf has to do, sighed Harold, thinking that he had finally proven his point: that the serfs have many more opportunities than they, the gargoyles, ever enjoyed. His smug grin faded when Bertram said: Forsooth, Harold, your arguments have merely shown how the serfs' formal studies prepare them for the future. A true education includes much more than this. You have completely neglected the activities that are available to the whole popula- tion of the empire! I could tell you a thing or two about them! Humph! Thats a waste of time, they ought to go home and study to do more worthwhile things. Worthwhile? What could be more worthwhile than the activities the G.O. makes possible? Where else can the serfs gain practical, firsthand knowledge of the work- ings of a democratic government than at the G.O. round-table or at political party meetings? There they have a chance to meet people, make new friends, exchange ideas, develop interests, and work cooperatively with others toward a common goal. Each new serf is acquainted with the system and is given the chance to join older working members in their quest for good school government. And the serfs really seem to enjoy the work they're doing! Their eagerness and creativity are evident throughout the political campaign each term when bright, new posters, boosters, slogans, publicity stunts, and rallies are organized by each party. They have even started the custom of designing a new button each term! By my troth, Bertram, I fail to see the wonder you obviously perceive in their deeds! I've never even seen you take your beak out of a book to heed their rallies, Harold. They represent more than frolic and fanfare. This venture demands the divers talents of everyone in the Kingdom, even the lowliest serf can contribute somethingf, SILVER BLUE First Row L. to R.: Beverly Thomas, Sydney Lapidus, Joan Borowick, Edie Johnson, Judy Sommer, Abby Falk, jackie Daum, Brenda Taranto, Fran Kreiselman, Helen Rauch, Willa Sack, Hinda Greenfader, Emily Karp, Second Row L. to R.: Steve Ussach, Dave 'X f: ll .mm , Hurewitz, Bob Lesser, Mike Cahn, Andrew Gottesman, Stan Lieberman, Jeff Weinberg, Ricky Bernstein, Bob Johnson, Arnold Hagler, Richard Boris, Bob Nuremberg, Third Row L. to R.: Harvey Golubock, Roger Eisen, Howard Smith, Bob Ennis, jesse Samuels, Phil Press, Ken Karpel, Barry Wertheimer, Edward Barrish, Danny Press. 4.
