Thought is involved in manual work, not to mention physical dexterity. And what could be more practical than stenography, bookkeeping, typing, and the other commercial subjects, which enable those leaving the Kingdom to obtain immediate, profitable employment? Such training was unknown in our day when long apprenticeships under guild masters were necessary before one could be- come economically self-sustaining. Today, boys learning drafting, or working with wood, metals, jewelry or electricity, can apply their knowledge when seeking jobs or doing 'do-it-yourself' work, or use it as a vocation later in life, when, through the miracles of medicine, they near the age of us ancient gargoyles. You dont seem to realize that the mentors are pre- paring their proteges to adapt to changes taking place in the world far different from any we have known. The tourna- ment of life is changing, and knowledge of the arts is a formidable weapon when one is challenged by boredom. Can you believe that these serfs may work but thirty hours a week, while enjoying high incomes and three-day weekends for their toil? They must be shown how to spend their leisure time usefully. Of course you must know that appreciation of the fine arts is not innate and must be instilledf, There! You have just proven my point, Harold. A thirty-hour week! Courses in art! Pshaw! What kind of knights will these be? Marry, Bertram, no one unites his time in the study of artg he enriches his life instead. And that applies to music as well. Music also plays a large part in entertaining man during his leisure hours. No longer is the enjoyment of music restricted to the elite. Wfhy, by a mere twist of 21 dial any one can have his choice: classical, modern, jazz, or 'rock and roll'.
