COMMA DI G OFFICER 29 JUNE l97l to 20 NOVEMBER l972 Commander James M. McCulloch, USN, was born 2I December I934 in Plainview, Texas, and was graduated from Texas Technological University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agronomy. He attended Officer Candidate School and was commissioned as an Ensign on I4 April I957. His first tour of duty was aboard the USS Uhlmann CDD-6875 where he serv- ed as Anti-Submarine Warfare Officer and Weapons Officer. ln April l96O Com- mander McCuIloch was released to inactive duty. He volunteered for recall to ac- tive duty and in October I96l, Commander McCulloch was ordered to duty as Ex- ecutive Officer of the USS Conquest CMSO-4885. Commander McCulloch was assigned to the Naval Postgraduate School in March I963, where he successfully completed the Engineering Science Curriculum. He then transferred to the Nuclear Effects Engineering Curriculum and was awarded a Bachelor of Science Degree in physics upon graduation in June l966. Following this tour of duty Commander McCulloch was assigned as Executive Officer of the USS Morton CDD-9485 where he served until he was ordered to the Staff of Destroyer Squadron FIVE in August l967. He served as Chief of Staff and Operations Officer until December l968 when he was assigned to Field Command Defense Atomic Support Agency as a nuclear physicist. In April l97I, Commander McCulloch was ordered to assume command of the USS Floyd B. Parks. Through his competent leadership, and the high esteem in which the crew held him, Commander McCulloch was the keystone upon which the excellent reputation of SUPERFRAM was built during his tour as Commanding Officer. - On 20 November l972 Commander McCulloch was relieved of command and transferred to Staff, Commander Cruiser-Destroyer Force, U.S. Pacific Fleet.
